Saurian Brandy Bottle question for the "Prop-Tops*"

Is/was the leather strap around the neck glued to the glass? How about the base leather? I recently got a hold of a proper George Dickel bottle (right size and color of glass), and the base leather is either glued on or stuck on with age, while the neck leather is loose but shows signs of having been glued or stuck with age at some point... I can't tell much from screencaps from Enemy Within, By Any Other Name, and Journey To Babel, although it looks like the neck was loose in By Any Other Name (before Scotty and his guest get to the bottle of "it's green").

I'll have to check mine when I get home.

Still pissed that the thing was in perfect condition when I bought it at a flea market for $5, but one year in storage when I moved caused the leather to dry and crack. :(

I'll check mine tonight and let you know. I've always loved the design and how affordable it is to own something so iconic.

Aren't there "large" and "small" versions of this thing? If so, what's the size difference?

Near as I can figure, there are two common versions... one is about 12" tall and dark glass (there is a fuzzy picture of probably this one in use in Quark's on DS9 on memory-alpha). The other common version is about 15" tall and seems to come in a light amber color glass 45% of the time and dark glass 55% of the time. Looking at screen captures I made when I first got the TOS DVD set, I believe the 15" light amber bottle to be the correct one. (I actually ended up with one of each, but the smaller one suffers from the same fate of the leather as above).

Also note there are or were many other sizes of the same bottle design from Dickel. If I recall, I ran across a collectible site that had a picture of all of them... mini's, this color, that color, different sizes, etc.

So I've made myself happy with picking up the light amber 15 incher, but I am not sure on whether the upper leather is supposed to be glued or was just stuck with age at some point in the past.

All I know is this: AWESOME. Any prop or anything that can be made into a proper facsimile is GREAT.

I haven't read into the thread yet to see.. but, you should post pics!!

Is anybody able to answer my original questions? ...Is/was the leather strap around the neck glued to the glass? How about the base leather?

Oh, god, I keep forgetting!

Once I get home from work, everything from the day filters out of my brain.

Hello. I just got one of these myself, and mine seems to be the same as yours. The leather around the neck is loose, and the leather on the bottom is stuck firm to the bottle. Since our bottles seem to be the same, I think that answers my big question, which by an amazing chance was the same as yours!

Bit of a quandry for me, really, as I'd like to be able to remove the leather to better clean the bottle off, as well as so that I might paint the leather easier without worrying about getting paint all over the bottle.

Certianly wouldn't mind if anyone had any suggestions on how to get the leather off from the bottle without damaging it!
