"Rem"ing Data

A friend of mine video-taped the old LOGANS RUN tv show years ago...I could barely remember it. But I watched a couple episodes this weekend, and I think one of them was written by DC FONTANA..anyway, there is a character on there named REM. I thought I was watching Data...before data. Does anyone remember this old show and the character of REM???

I was a kid when Logan's Run was a tv show. I remember the characters quite well, and the actors, but don't recall the plots at all. I remember not being very fond of Rem.

I knew I recognized him..i think his real name is Donald Mophat or something like that...he played the President in one of those Jack Ryan movies with Harrison Ford. He's been around for awhile. I didn't realize, until now, he played the role of REM on Logans Run..

The only thing I recall about that show, and we're talking 30 years ago or so, was the silly truck thing they drove around in..and how it looked like it was filmed on the same old ranch road...

I actually remember Logan's Run pretty well from reruns on Sci-Fi a few years ago. I always thought Rem was pretty cool. I liked how he would pull open his clothing and reveal machinery down there.
I never thought of him as a Data. Other than the two of them were androids, they weren't too similar. Rem never wantedto be human like Data. He was pretty content being himself. A lot healthier mentally than Data, if you ask me.

Wow. Logan's Run. I don't remember the series so much but I attended the premiere for the movie in Hollywood. We even entered a friend of mine in a costume contest at the premiere. Anyway the dude on the far right was REM.

Rem also seemed to have some emotions. Remember the episode with Mariette Hartley as the female android?

Zephram Cochrane was REM!? ;eek:

Anyway, I seem to have blocked out most 70s sci fi TV from my brain. It's better that way.

Nope. Rem was Donald Moffat. Cochrane (assume you mean the First Contact version) was James Cromwell. In your defense, there is someting of a resemblence.

I saw two more episodes this past monday, and I swear this guy is acting REM like Spiner did during the first season of TNG..in fact, I just saw an episode penned by DC FONTANA...

I think if you found Data's expanded family tree you'd find Questor, Rem, and Hymie (from Get Smart) in his ancestry.

The guy that played Logan is Gregory Harrison.

I met him this last summer. He came into my studio
to do some voice over work.

Really Nice guy! :)

I only knew him from Logan's Run and Falcon Crest.
He does mostly stage work.

He had a major role in James Michener's Centennial.

Spoiler ahead, from 30 years ago.

He suffered one of the more undignified deaths in the history of TV. He was running alongside a train trying to stop his daughter from running away for the umpteenth time. He slipped on the ice and fell under the train. :guffaw:

Yep, I do remember Rem. He was a pre-Data, almost as much as Questor, another Gene Rodenberry creation. Logan's Run was a rather ill-advised adaptation of an OK movie -- the book is much better.

BTW, Moffat was also in the 1980s version of The Thing, along with a bunch of other character actors. That was a cool movie. Kurt Russell was the star of that flick.
