Rate Kira's Romances

Lieutenant Commander

I've been rewatching Ds9 with my girlfriend, and she was really disappointed when Vedek Bereil was killed off. I think it was great because it came out of no where, and most other shows would have gone forward with the relationship in a rather predictable way.

Then again, none of Kira's relationships really panned out. Shakaar was only seen in three episodes even though he was referred to in seasons 6-7. My whole question about him is why he wasn't around during the final arc? As the political leader of Bajor, he should have been there as a potential foil to Kai Winn. Maybe Kai Winn could have wound up killing him when she joined forces with Dukat.

Then there's Odo, and while it started off interesting ("His Way" is one of my favorite episodes despite the fact that people hate it), it kind of fizzled and went no where. Ultimately, Odo leaves her for the Great Link since it was for the greater good to heal his people and teach the Founders to trust the solids (some of them anyway).

I suppose Kira just has no luck with intimate relationships, but if you had to choose, which relationship was the best one, which would it be? I think I'd go with Bereil since the chemistry they had together seemed pretty genuine, and he had a bit of a calming effect on her. It's ashame they killed him I suppose since it would have been interesting to see his chracter react to Kai Winn and perhaps even Shakaar.

Kira and Odo. Bareil was a little too one-note for me, as was their romance. Shakaar was a douche, but that was kind of the idea since you were supposed to be rooting for Odo while he was with Kira.

I gotta go with Beriel. I really like the character and they had serious chemistry. The Odo relationship seemed a little wierd. The unrequited love angle was more interesting. But thats just my opinion I could be wrong. :bolian:

Kira and Odo. I found their romance really sweet and I don't mind that by the end they don't get to live happily ever after. Such is life.
But I liked Kira's other relationships as well. Didn't hurt that Bareil was a real hottie.

Bet you'll never guess how I voted.

Kira/Odo is downright creepifying whereas Kira/Bareil was sizzling hot and steamy!

Yeah. I'm with you. Nana was 100% right when she said they should have never got together. Odo's love was best when it was unrequited.

Agreed.

Kira/Odo might very well be my biggest beef with DS9. Rene is old enough to be Nana's father...and it shows, makeup or not.

To me, it's just plain creepy.

Kira and Odo, even though I didn't think either 3 were really as good as they could have been. The model relationship in a Scifi series that I have seen is still John and Aeryn.

Odo / Kira, definately.

But, Kira / Bariel was alright, despite 'Resurrection'.

Didn't care much for Kira / Shakaar, and it didn't help that he only showed up in three episodes. The relationship was too one-sided, with lots of name droppin', and the O'Brien baby was a handicap.

shakaar?

i was totally in love with bareil. the whole concept of resurrection intrigued me, at least until mirror kira showed up.

From my perspective, as a man, Shakar was a deadly bore. Bereil was almost as bad, but not quite. I never understood what Kira saw in either, but I'm sure it was a very Bajoran affair. A Yin Yang kind of thing. :D

My man Odo, was the real deal!

Bareil was a mannequin, it would be impossible for him to have any chemistry with any living being IMO. He was a terrible character and his "romance" with Kira was even more terrible. I don't see how anything could be more gross of a romance than Kira getting busy with a mannequin.

Shakaar was a great character played by a great, charming, non-mannequin-like person who made amazingly believable chemistry with Kira in Crossfire. However, since he was a Bajoran and Bajoran plotlines are almost always boring, tedious, and pointless, I don't mind that he was under-used.

Kira/Odo was developed gradually over a course of years and utterly brilliant. Although Odo "leaving her" in WYLB is ludicrous since it only takes one second to heal the whole Great Link, and none of them would ever believe Odo's pro-solid propaganda after they tried to wipe them out with a genocide disease. It's not that Odo/Kira's romance was bad, just that it was one of WYLB's many casualities due to WYLB being a rushed episode, leading to it have many hackyneyed elements like "Odo leaving Kira".

I don't like any of the choices. I like Kira/Dukat ;) they were well-matched and hated each other. what better ingredients to a romance for an ex-terrorist and her target? besides, Alaimo and Visitor had fantastic screen chemistry. every single one of their scenes together sizzled.

(and don't someone bring up her mother. I consider that episode revisionist history, is all).

I just get the feeling that even if Odo didn't return to the Great Link that their relationship would never work out. They did have some good moments together though.
