Rank the James Cameron movies

With the release of Avatar everyone's going James Cameron mad, so it's time to rank the man's movies in your opinion.
I'm just counting the proper films here as opposed to the 3D ones and such, and I must admit I haven't seen Piranha 2!

So with 1 as the best I would say...

1. Aliens (1986)
2. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
3. Avatar (2009)
4. The Terminator (1984)
5. True Lies (1994)
6. The Abyss (1989)
7. Titanic (1997)

Aliens & Terminator 2 are straight up there, Aliens is one of all time favourite movies, I just adore everything about it, and T2 is easily in my Top 10 also. I remember seeing when it came out on video (I was about 7) and it frazzled my brain it was so good.
Maybe its blasphemous of me to put Terminator in 4th place, and I do love it, but maybe because I saw T2 first that get's more love from me, and Avatar blew me away so much it deserves a high placing.

True Lies is a great fun action film, and I've only ever seen The Abyss once and though I enjoyed it, maybe just not so much as the others.
I'm not slamming Titanic or anything either by having it last, I remember really really liking it at the cinema, but looking back it's not overly my cup of tea per se, and though I don't dislike it, it's the sort of film I would buy on DVD and rewatch again and again.

Over to you

Aliens is maybe the best sci-fi action movie ever made.

I like the original Terminator better than the sequel, though they are both great movies.

I keep swapping the placement of Aliens and T2...that's the toughest part.

3. Terminator 2: Judgment Day
4. Avatar

I haven't seen any other films by Cameron. I've seen part of True Lies on television a few times, but never been that interested.

Terminator 2
Aliens
The Terminator
True Lies
Avatar
Titanic

Odd as it may sound, I haven't seen The Abyss.

1. Terminator/Aliens (tie) Really fantastic filmmaking, good storytelling, largely successful inexpensive vfx. Longer version of ALIENS really fantastic.

2. Terminator II - awfully damned good.

3. ABYSS - nice try, first half is really great.
....

True Lies (way way down, like a Roger Moore Bondmovie)

Titanic (I haven't even been able to get through it, and since I laughed at inappropriate moments, I'm sure I won't ever even try again)

Avatar ... yeah, right, as if I'd even go.

1. I say "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" is his masterpiece. Nothing he's ever done or will ever do can top that. From the first minute it works beautifully with the awesomely ominous and foreboding music. The action seems to drag on a little too long by the end, but the performances from all involved are pitch-perfect.

Arnold has never been better, Linda Hamilton's intensity was consistently riveting, Edward Furlong had just the right balance of obnoxiousness and heartfelt vulnerability to not be too annoying or too corny. T-1000 is one of the greatest movie villains ever, not only because of the impeccable special effects which I believe will be mindblowing forever, but also his performance, which was deliciously menacing without him ever seeming to try.

2. "True Lies" - I guess some people think the comedy stuff in here is lame and only the action parts are great (i.e. Siskel & Ebert), but I love this whole movie. I thought Bill Paxton's character was hilarious (Arnold saying "those idiots!" and fantasizing about bloodying his face is one of the funniest things I've ever seen), so the admittedly ridiculous comedy scenes with him were just as entertaining to me as the wonderfully over-the-top action sequences that bookend the movie.

3. "Terminator" - Very cool movie. I've seen it a few times and always enjoy watching it on TV, but I wouldn't buy it. Kyle Reese is a great character who really carried the movie from start to finish, and the action sequences were a blast, but unfortunately, Linda Hamilton and Arnold were not as interesting (or as cool-looking) as they were in the sequel.

4. "Titanic" - Pretty cheesy dialogue and a performance by Leonardo Dicaprio that is irritatingly melodramatic at times, but Kate Winslet was lovely and the tone and special effects of the thing were suitably epic. As a kid, I thought it was enthralling. It doesn't have the same impact anymore, but I still think it's respectably watchable and effectively touching in many parts.

5. "The Abyss" - Nice, intelligent, contemplative sci-fi story. I've only seen it once, but I remember it being very thoughtful and moving. Definitely one I'd like to see again.

6. "Aliens" - I saw this recently and was disappointed that it wasn't as impressive as it was the first time I saw it. Terrific performance by Sigourney Weaver and some neat production design, but I found the other characters way too one-dimensional (i.e. Dumb, impulsive, jackass jock Bill Paxton and evil greedy selfish corporate jerk Paul Reiser).

This movie pales in comparison to the infinitely more restrained, subtle, and atmospheric "Alien" with its much more intriguing cast of characters and better-paced action. I prefer the creepy, suspenseful horror movie with just two or three aliens rather the more straightforward action flick with a whole bunch of them. At least Cameron didn't overexpose the creatures like later Alien movies.

I haven't seen "Avatar".

People don't like the comedy in True Lies!?! That movie was frickin' hilarious, that's what elevates it's greatness!

"What kind of bitch takes the ice cube trays out of the freezer!?!"

I don't remember the Terminator movies, except very vaguely (last saw 2 when I was six).

So probably something like:

Aliens
Avatar
Titanic
