Printable T88 from Lower Decks

Serin117

Commander
Red Shirt
Long time, no post!

Just got finished bashing out a high poly high detail version of the T88 tool seen in ep 5 of Lower Decks - goes beep quicker than anything else in Starfleet!
The general idea was to take the screen accurate design and kinda spruce it up well... a lot. But if we're honest, that thing had no detail to begin with. The trick I've found is to try to keep the details in keeping with Starfleety design, with maybe a lick of Serin original in there.

Awesome idea! And they turned out great. I thought they were a little fatter on the show, but other than that they look very true to what we saw. Love the added detailing on the glowing scanner part in the front. :bolian:

EDIT: They might be a cool entry for this month's art forum challenge, by the way. If you want to make something with them. :)

Yeah, a few of the other versions of this I've seen floating around have defs been thicker - and I understand why the artists have chosen to go that way.
However... I based mine on a variety of screenshots - and there were more that I could find that suggested it was thinner. Its also probably more usable in this state than the thickbois the other people have modelled.
I'd love to do something for the comp, but I barely have time this month. A shame - it'd look nice in a starfleet case.

Wow, very nice! Have you 3d printed this yet?

As I look at the model I don't see a place for a button. I can't tell from the show if it should be like a trigger, or under the user's thumb. If you watch carefully, there's a small backward motion when Tendi uses hers as she argues with Rutherford about who's going to impress their department.
It should also have a light on the back, over the user's thumb.

Since this only makes two lights light up and a single beep, it's a snap to make electronics for. Unfortunately they talk over all the beeps so getting the mp3 right will be a bit of work.

Dear @Serin117 I would be very much interested in one of these (can't pm you yet, because I just registered because of you ;) ), since I would like to use it as a pattern and comparison piece for a Steam Trek version of it, because I love your design approach on how you turned the animated version into a real-life one and would try to translate that on the same detail level into Steampunk.

To give you an idea what I am talking about.
Here is the design how the Steampunk version of Lower Decks is supposed to look like:

and here an example of how I translate and build original props into Steam Trek variants:

Probably I am just to dumb, but isn't there a possibility to edit published posts??

OK, for some reason pictures (source FB) don't show up.. :(
There isn't a possibility to upload them directly, is there?

So here the link to the picture page itself: https://www.facebook.com/SteamTrek/photos_albums

Check the Lower Decks, TNG and Discovery folder for the aforementioned images (uniforms, Tricorder and Communicator).

I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

@Arsenal Best, welcome to the TrekBBS! Your idea of a steampunk version of the Lower Deckers sounds intriguing. Be sure to post photos of the finished costumes etc. if you do end up making them.

Your images showed up for me. However, please don't hotlink to images hosted on other sites, like Facebook in this case. Rather use a free image sharing service like for example imgur.com to host your images and share them here. I took the liberty of doing this for the images you already posted, so no need to do anything right now. :)

There is the option of uploading images directly to the TrekBBS, but that feature only comes with a paid premium membership.

As for editing your posts, that feature will be available after you've spent some time here. Not sure how long it is right now, but I think it's two weeks and a couple of posts.

@Michael thx for the help and info.
Yes, 14 days and 14 posts before I receive more features, but didn't expect something so basic as editing would be restricted too.
As for the image posting. Will see, that I use something else than FB next time.

Current plan is to realize those uniform till May next year for a Con. However since this year will be exceptionally filled with big Cosplay projects in the same timeframe, it's not guaranteed, that we'll succeed with that deadline.

True, it's a basic feature. But also something spam accounts or trolls could do a lot of harm with. ;)

I'm assuming you’re in Germany, since you posted a German URL earlier. Since I'm also from Germany I'm curious which convention you are going to. :)

@Michael they are meant for the FedCon, since we started our Steam Trek universe there in 2014 and debuted every new iteration we made there since.
We will also attend the Destination Trek, but it's not yet set, if we will wear our Lower Decks (if finished) there too or something else.

^ Ah, cool. Have been to Destination Trek twice, which was pretty cool, but didn't manage going to FedCon yet. I'm curious to see how Destination Trek will now fare, after they've lost the official license or whatever.

@Michael you definitely should visit the FedCon!
Destination Trek is (was) more of a typical Expo Con. FedCon is much more like a Fanfamily which includes the visiting stars, who because everyone treats them respectfully as normal beings are much more relaxed and have fun too. I.e. you never have partied if you haven't partied with Marina Sirtis on the dance floor. :D

However since Destination Trek after loosing its official licence was now taken over by the same guy responsible for the FedCon, it too might change a bit in that direction.
