Poseidon

7 launchers is a bit much. I've always thought of 8 as pushing it, 10 ridiculous and Akira-esque loadouts as absurd.

Hell, I've always thought ONE would more than suffice for a starship of any size, considering photons are their main offensive weapon and are powerful enough that you only need a handful to do the trick. If you have a Galaxy-style "six at a time" launcher, or even a STXI style semi-automatic unit that can fire twice a second, one is more than enough.

Unfortunatley, fanon ship design techniques have left many persons on the internet with the impression that torpedo tubes = general ship strength.

I remember someone criticising my Anhur-class patrol ship for being underarmed. It's a freaking police ship! A torpedo tube is pretty heavy duty for something of its size in the first place.

We ought to remember that not all Starfleet ships are intended as battlewagons, and also that only major powers (Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians (not anymore for the latter, though) have weaponry on par with the Federation cruisers. Pirate McRaider isn't likely to have a ship that can stand to-to-toe with even the weakest of Starfleet ships.

And torpedoes are guided weapons. And most launchers we've seen can launch them rapidly. And they're essentially "WMD"s. And you need storage and loading facilities. And horizantal clearance for the tubes themselves. All good arguments for not coating a ship in torpedo tubes.

Wingsley: I'd tone things down to the approximate length/width/height of a Sovereign & the same payouts in terms of phasers, torpedoes / tubes as a standard Sovereign-Class. I'd make it a one-time Wolf 359 "frankenstein fleet" vessel with a two-part MVAM (rather than three,) as it ~IS~ just a Promie "Alpha" saucer-section piggybacking on a Sovereign-Class stardrive.

A partially-completed Prometheus-Class was mated to an incapacitated Sovereign-Class, laid-low by The Dominion, as...(add plot here) and various crew were quickly gathered from other assignments in Utopia Planetia's repair queue on-the-fly to deal with the (add bad guy here.)

Besides, you wouldn't want this ship provoking non-Federation political entities that pick up the Poseidon on long range sensors & wonder if the UFP is initiating an arms race/build-up during a time when they're espousing a return to Starfleet's original Pike-era type peaceful exploration.

You'd barely take this one out of spacedock/drydock except to address the Kam'Jathae / Hur'q, or renegade Klingons/Romulans, or a rare glimpse at a Borg scout.
