Next month, most likely between 8th and 18th December, the population of Tasmania will reach 500,000 for the first time in history. It has only taken 204 years since the first white settlement for this to happen.

I was wondering how many of you live in cities that have a larger population than my entire state so a simple poll to determine that.

Norwalk's population is around 110,000. A nice sized population without being too big. There is of course, Los Angeles, which i live close to, which has a population approaching 4 million.

Depends on what you mean by "city". Is it the actual administrative city boundary as defined by local government, or the whole conurbation area?

In both cases, my answer is Yes.

Whichever you consider to be your 'city'.

Technically Greater Hobart (population 200,000) is made up of three cities (the cities of Hobart, Glenorchy and Clarence).

well if your 'city' is 200,000 then I must live in one hell of a big 'town'.

???

I am going on you saying that your city was about 2/5 of 500,000.

no you misunderstand, you are asking about people living in city's. I do not live in a city but my towns population is about the same as your 'city' so if your city has 200,000 then my town must be huge.

Ya know, because citys are meant to be bigger than towns.

In my state a town becomes a city when it is still quite small. We have 5 cities in Tasmania - Hobart, Glenorchy and Clarence make up Greater Hobart, Launceston (population about 70,000) and Burnie (population about 18,000).

The population of Baltimore is ~640,000, which is about 350,000 off the 1950 peak population. The Baltimore-Towson Metro Area has about 2.7 million. So, yes. Bigger.

Lincoln is about half of that but soon when it merges with Omaha we shall be a super city bent on global destruction.

Geez I live in a small town. Only about 65,000. There's only about 3 million total in Oregon (97,000 sq miles).

Yes.

The City of Ottawa has a population of about 1.1 million, but that includes a lot of rural areas and small towns. The actual urban area has a population around 800 000. Neither of those includes a good chunk of urbanization on the other side of the river, which would bring the total to 1.4 million.

So, between 800 000 and 1.4 million, depending on how you measure.
