Poker and chess, sport or game?

They could be considered mind sports. I've stopped playing online poker because of how the software will create 'action' so it's not 100% random. This becomes obvious when you see very rare hands like 4 of a kind cropping up several times in a tournament even though in real life you could play thousands of hands of poker and never see 4 of a kind or a straight flush.

I'm playing in a tournament on chess.com and won my first round 1 game. I was surprised at the analysis showing no mistakes or blunders and my first ever brilliant move.

Throwing money away on online slots doesn't sound very relaxing and slots are probably the least regulated online casino game. I don't even play real fruit machines any more apart from the very occasional £1 or £2 in a pub. I had a nice result a few months ago when I put £1 in a fruit machine because it was next to a pool table I was playing on and won close to £60. The old me would have put half of it back in.

I played slots in Las Vegas but was only 19 so it was a bit pointless. I looked older and got away with it for a few days but eventually the waitresses and security started growing suspicious and would ask to see my passport to confirm I was over 21. They were always very polite but soon the only place I could go were the arcades at Circus Circus to play pinball and shoot hoops. Not quite viva Las Vegas but those arcades were amazing.

They're games. Put them on ESPN all you want along with checkers, tiddlywinks, bridge, or Candy Land... they're still games.

What about darts or snooker? Both are games obviously include a high degree of skill, but both also benefit from some stamina and a certain level of fitness at the highest level, but certainly don't require it. There have been many pro-level players who aren't traditionally fit looking such as Stephen Lee or Andy Fordham.

And what about motorsports? You certainly have to be ultra-fit to compete in F1 due to the G-forces you experience, but there are plenty of competitors in series like World Endurance Racing who aren't in perfect shape.
