Ncuti Gatwa is the 15th Doctor

I'm surprised this announcement simply just...happened. Usually there's a big buildup towards it and we know when it's going to be announced.

That aside, I haven't heard of him since I've never watched Sex Education but I look forward to see what he brings to the role!

Yeah, Capaldi and Whittaker's announcements rivaled that of the Pope! This was the equivalent of a "page 7" newspaper article, hearkening to the era when Troughtron was announced. (I recently inline linked a video by "Mr. Tardis" who did a retrospective of actor announcements and this situation is far more reminiscent of the series early years.)

He's definitely more along the lines of Tennant or Smith, in being on the verge of a big career, rather than Eccleston or Capaldi. He's in line to pick up a BAFTA tonight, so possibly a reason for the announcement happening today.

I don't know if he is going to shooting soon though, as looking at IMDB he's currently doing the *shudder* 'Barbie' movie.

(Kris Marshall needs a new agent or he's never going to get the job.)

I hope that Murray Gold comes back to score the soundtrack too, one of the best TV composers ever in my opinion.

Coincidentally, it is my birthday today so Ncuti Gatwa can be my birthday Doctor haha! :guffaw:

I hope that he is good!

I hope not. While Gold's quiet motifs were gorgeous, he far too often leaned heavily on overwhelming bombastic pieces that got very old very quickly.

I get why some people don't like Segun Akinola's work but I absolutely love the otherworldly nature of his music. If Akinola doesn't return, I won't be too disappointed, but I much rather have an entirely new composer than returning to Gold.

I'll be honest. My gut reaction was no once I recognised him. I thought W-T-F that's Eric! (Sex Education). Of course that reaction was solely based on imagining ERIC as The Doctor, rather than the actor.

But after mulling it over these past couple of minutes, I'm already warming to the idea. Ncuti != Eric, obviously. I think Ncuti definitely has an energy and charisma to him that would serve him well in the role. I think his range comfortably covers serious and humorous; considering some of the material he's taken on in Sex Ed, I think he could endow The Doctor with a darker tone if and when required.

And obviously - trust in RTD.

Sort it out in the writing room and this could be a very savvy move.

I'm completely unfamiliar with him and wasn't expecting an announcement today, but I'm glad they didn't go with any of the obvious picks.
