Mythbusters meets Dr Who

Man I liked that better than the current arrangement of the theme. Can we use this version from now on?

Here is Arc Attack doing the Doctor Who theme in 2010

They also did a couple others in 2009 with the theme.
is the music coming from the coils?, ive not seen this act before.

That said there is some additional music on stage, even if its hidden in the corner.

Yeah the arcing of electricity seems to be regulated by the volume of the two lead guitars. There also seem to be two electrically charged plates on the ground that is able to draw the electricity down to the ground, I'm guessing they're also somehow controlled by the music.

Would I be wrong to say that the gutairs are acting as the control for resistors that feed power to the coils?

Essentially, yes. The guitars control resistors between the tesla coil and the ground so when there's no resistance (low volume), electricity flows directly to ground without any visible sparks. And when the guitars are playing, resistance to ground has to be very high, shifting the path of least resistance towards Adam Savage's cage.

Technically, I suppose a switch controlled by the guitar's decibel level would work better.

we are going to have to get these guys on The One Show, so they can explain exactly what they are doing, that or "Bang Goes The Theory"
