Top 10 overrated tv shows
:klingon:
, they get Emmys, they get raved by critics, and they got fanboys all over the net trying to sell these shows
BUT THEY ALL SUCK :scream:

1
Dexter sucks...I got through about four episodes and I can't believe critics are so turned on by this garbage. The series is not nearly as dark or funny as it's claimed to be and this Dexter character might have been semi interesting but you see soap-opera plot devices developing trying to make the character more interesting but it just falls flat on its face. Rita getting pregnant etc what a disaster. The hype behind Dexter makes me wonder if these people have ever watched good TV before.
2
Battlestar - Could have been a great tv series but it totally stinks now. Tigh becoming a cylon might have been when battlestar jumped the shark.
I've already said enough on this crap series and already got flamed by the cult of RonMoore many, many times (They are even worse than Whedonphiles)
3
Buffy/Angle - terrible shows
4
Sex in the City
5
LOST stopped watching afetr a season and a half, the polt got so repeditive, the others weren't myserious but later shownb as a bunch of sub urbanities. Lost does too many flash forwards, flashbacks, backstories and so forth. It tries to be clever but its not, it really suffers just because they have made it too long. Maybe one day the fat dude will wake up in a mental hospital and the entire show was in his head

7Gilmore Girls etc
dawson's creek etc I'd rather chew broken glass than go through another episode of this kind of drama stuff

8The series NCIS

9The series 24, it keeps getting awards. Yeah I enjoyed one season but its totally jumped the shark. Jack's Daddy the terrorist! Tony dead!
Come on! this show is done stick a fork in it

10
Anything with the word Sitcom in it The Nanny, Perfect Strangers, Will and Grace aka Psuedo-yuppie comedy of the worst variety etc 99% of Sitcoms are terrible or anything to do with reality tv ie Ghost Hunters, Hells Kitchen, Big Brother, Stars In Their Eyes. bla bla

Anything with the word Sitcom in it The Nanny, Perfect Strangers, Will and Grace...

You're obviously refering to their production titles: "Sitcom The Nanny" "Perfect Sitcom Strangers" and "Will Sitcom and Sitcom Grace"

Most people aren't aware that these title actually have the word sitcom in it.

...The Nanny...Ghost Hunters, Hells Kitchen, Big Brother, Stars In Their Eyes.

when did any of these shows get raved by critics?

The Office. Both versions. Yes, even the original. Especially the original.

Thin on punchlines (by design, perhaps, but "cringy" does not equal "hilarity"), and nowhere near as groundbreaking as it was made out to be at the time.

I enjoyed it, enough even to buy the DVDs, but Extras took similar themes and ideas and executed them a whole lot better for my money.

It's more a case of Ricky Girveas (sp) then anything else, I don't personally think he is as funny as many a "expert" has made him out to be.

^

I loved Gervais' stand-up stuff, and his other series. I wouldn't put the blame squarely on his involvement.

Talking of overrated comedy, Little Britain is the biggest steaming shitpile ever to grace the airwaves. And unlike The Office, is completely and utterly devoid of worth.

The Office is trash.

Lost is hot garbage.

American Idol is one of the worst pieces of Americana every made.

Seinfeld.

The perfect example of a decent TV show getting blown way, way out of proportion to something it never was. It's not even in my top 25, yet TV Guide names it the best show of all time... make me gag!

Buffy/Angle - terrible shows
4
Sex in the City
I've heard of Buffy, but I'm not sure about "Angle"

It's a thrilling drama about a mathematician called Des "Angle" Pascimedes who it trying to design a shape with only two sides while getting into varying degrees of trouble. Episodes had Des sitting at a desk all day mumbling while working on equations and constantly fighting off the evil students that would knock on his door asking for advice on their thesis. His arch-nemesis was the university finance department who were constantly trying to cut his budget and get him to do some real work. The show only took off with college math professors and since they are not in the key demo it was cancelled after its second episode due to "low numbers".

As for most overrated show, I'm going to pick the elephant that is sitting beside me and nominate Star Trek. Sure, its a fun show but does it deserve the status it has managed to achieve in 40 years? Probably not.

I like this thread. It's a way to vent your dislikes without dirtying up other threads on the shows. Here we go:

  • Battlestar Galactica - I absolutely hate this show. Part of what makes me hate it so much is the constant raving about it here and elsewhere on the Internet. It just isn't that good. My biggest qualm with it is the characters/actors. I find the actors totally unappealing, don't like one person on the cast. I hate the way they look, speak, move, everything. It irritates me when I see them on TV.
  • Everybody Loves Raymond - Oh god, this show is such crap. Another case of hating the characters. The voices with their VERY annoying accents just grate on my ears whenever I hear them. Not funny, just annoying. The characters are mean, stupid, and clueless. Nothing redeeming, just makes me hate them. SO glad this show is off the air.
  • CSI: Miami - I can understand how people would like the original. I think the Law and Order series is way better than the CSIs, but at least I can understand it. But Miami? Like, seriously? This show is just awful, the stupid one liners make me roll my eyes and desperately want to change the channel. Cheesy can sometimes be good, but this is WAY over the line, in the worst way possible. Just idiotic.
  • Desperate Housewives - A soap opera disguised as a prime time show. An episode was on once when I was in the room and I thought it actually WAS a soap opera. I have seen it a few times since then since it comes on just before I show I like, and my opinion of it has not improved.
  • Firefly - COMPLETELY overrated, in every way imaginable. Even my boyfriend, who loves all scifi and will watch pretty much everything in the genre, couldn't stand this show. It was so raved about that I thought surely it must have some redeeming qualities. Sadly, none. It felt so amateur, like you were watching a pale comparison of a TV show. The characters and dialogue were silly and made little sense. I like the theme very much - a space western. I would have loved to see it done properly.
  • Dancing With the Stars - I could see how dancers or people in the "dancing business" (whatever that is) would be interested in this, but I don't see why normal people are. What is interesting about watching people dance? Does it have some hypnotizing effect or something? Because otherwise I can't see why anyone would not change the channel at that point.
  • American Idol - This is the big one. First, I hate the host. In the first season, the only one I watched in full, there were two hosts, Ryan Seacrest and some other guy. And I remember thinking, "I like that other guy, they should get rid of Seacrest." So of course they do the opposite and now I can't stand to watch it because Seacrest is so irritating. But even if he weren't there anymore I wouldn't watch it. Hate the "chemistry" between the judges. Paula is the worst. Have no interest in watching people stand there and sing. If I wanted to do that I would actually watch GOOD singers, or go to a concert.

The appeal of "The Sopranos" is completely lost on me. It's a bunch of horrible unsympathetic characters with no redeeming values whatsoever. Nothing ever happens in the episodes. There's hardly any plot or action to speak of. What's the point? I watched it for four years before finally giving up, and there only three episodes in that entire run that I actually enjoyed.

8The series NCIS

You take that back right now!!!!! :scream::scream::scream:

I kid, I kid. Opinions are opinions...however wrong they may be. ;)

I really only have 2 to add: Seinfeld and Friends. Ugh. Neither one were funny at all....despite their desperately trying. I think I watched a few more episodes of Seinfeld than Friends. My hubby liked Seinfeld so I occasionally gave it a try.
