Most alien of alien designs

Star Trek is well known for their aliens, actors wearing makeup with pointy ears or foreheads. But now and again we did get something truly alien. So what are your favourite alien.

What I like are
TOS the Horta
Voyager Species 8472
The tholians on enterprise and tos

The Gorn, both versions. We still can't get away from bipedal forms, but at least the Gorn are more than just humans with funny facial features.

The Medusans are non-corporeal. That's pretty different. Of course, Zero uses a bipedal encounter suit. Other non-corporeal beings include Zetar, and The Companion

I really like the crystal spider-like Tholian design - ENT really did them justice, I feel.
I also like the look of some of the aliens in ST IV: TVH's council chambers: Arcadians, Ariolo, and Bzzit Khaht, for example.
There are probably more so I'll pop back when I've thought of them :)

As far as most alien goes, how about the aliens that were so alien we couldn't see them, and they couldn't even communicate directly with us?

Such as for example the aliens in VOY: The Fight, or VOY: Twisted or TNG: Night Terrors?

Not much in the 'design' department, but they were very alien.

Honourable mention to the Medusans, too.

TOS' non-man-in-a-suit-with-bumpy head aliens were quite inventive: the Horta, Denevan Neural Parasites, the Melkotians, Yarnek, the Tholians, et al.

I'll leave animation out of consideration, since animators can create just about anything, and are not restricted by the limits of live production.

Ironically, some of the most interesting looking aliens are quite bland beyond their appearance. Talaxians, Bolians, and especially Kelpians are all examples of this. Very cool looking aliens; but just try to come up with any really alien trait about their biology or culture.

On the flip side, Trill and Ocampa are very different in their biology, but look ridiculously human. And of course, the Founders and the Q usually appear inhuman forms.

Andorians are cool looking, and in the books at least, pretty interesting, with their four sexes and antenna sensing electromagnetic fields. But I'm not sure how many of those traits are onscreen canon.

Tholians are very cool. I'd like to see more of them.

I'm also a fan of the idea of intelligent cloud creatures, which "Star Trek" has used more than once.

"Prodigy" has some very cool aliens, in its all-alien cast. Zero most of all.

I gotta be the asshole who says Changelings? Fine. Done.

They're so alien they don't even conform to our understanding of how the universe works. And they're interesting as both villains and as a detective with a hard shell around a gooey inside, literally and figuratively.

It's perhaps more interesting if they look more like us; differences have to be internal, biochemical, psychological, and/or cultural. That allows for more nuanced storylines than simply "look at the weird ugly alien guy".

I really liked Yarnek from the savage curtain. With all the 3rd season budget cuts the production team did a great job bringing yarnek to life. Looked really cool and alien.

Beyond the physical design, I especially appreciated the writers' novel approach in coming up with their method of communication.
Yes, light-coded 3D structure of molecules was a nice idea. As Daniel Jackson said: How do you ensure universal communication? There were molecules and not atoms, but it's a similar concept.

The funny thing I noticed about the Bio-Ships for Species 8472 along with the Energy-Focusing Bio-Ships for Species 8472
Assuming that the Energy-Focusing Bio-Ship AKA Dactylus class used in STO took it's model from the original Foundation Imaging model that made it, I've noticed something interesting.

There are 9x Energy Receptacles for powering up the "Planet-Killer" Beam

So in the show, Species 8472 using only 8/9 Possible Beams to converge to destroy a planet means they have 1x more ship's worth of energy that they can add to put in that much Over-Kill.

The fact that they need only 8/9 Ships to equate to the "Death Star" in terms of Power Output is ridiculous given how compact & tiny their ships are.

The main Bio-Ship has these Dimensional Specs:
- Length.Hull ≈ 200.0 m
- Radius.Hull ≈ _20.4 m
- Radius.Fin ≈ _61.5 m

For StarShip Vessel Scale reference:
NX-Class = L×W×H: (225.0×136.0×33.0) m

Each ship needs only 1x Species 8472 member to operate, & they operate via Telepathic link.

1x Bio-Ship can easily tank a normal Borg Cube's attack and easily destroy a cube in a few shots.

That has got to be some of the most efficient & powerful Organic-Ship tech that I've seen mass produced.

Their ships are impervious to:
- 24th Century StarFleet Sensors
- 24th Century StarFleet Tractor Beams
- 24th Century StarFleet Transporter Locks
- Highly resistant to Energy Weapons
- Has Natural Regenerative Abilities

They're so OP (Over Powered), I LOVE IT!

I almost mentioned them in my first post. So yes and no. Liquid state that’s pretty alien. But when they are in humanoid form basically another actor in a makeup effect. No that’s I’m knocking the concept lol

I do remember a changing on ds9 that never showed as a the usual actor in a mask. The plot revolved around finding it. Can’t really remember and feeling too lazy to look it up. Maybe someone who’s a ds9 expert can share some light?

The only Changeling who never took humanoid form (IIRC) was the infant from The Begotten. But I suspect that's not the one you mean.

It sounds like maybe it could be Odo from The Alternate? Or if not that, the "Admiral" one from The Adversary?

It’s been a long time since I watched ds9 so my memory is foggy. I may be thinking it could be odo from the Alternate.
