"It's not fun to watch when you go through your whole pitching staff and wind up bringing a utility infielder in to pitch," Joe Torre told Yahoo.

Go fuck yourself, Torre, position players pitching is the best thing outside of pitcher dingers.

The third week of March? Are you insane? It's miserable enough to attend a game at Wrigley or Yankee Stadium or Camden in the first week of April. Scheduling games when it's still entirely possible to have snow falling in half the league's stadiums would be madness.
Just thought of another thing.... College baseball games start the first weekend in February.

And college baseball is little more than an afterthought outside of warm-weather states (unless the school is lucky enough to have an agreement to play in a domed park). It's not like you see Michigan or Wisconsin as a perennial baseball powerhouse.

Geez Timby, you can be a dreary poster sometimes. Wisconsin hasn't fielded a team since 1991 so I would assume not.

My point exactly. :p

Edit: In other news, Forbes has released its annual team valuations. The Dodgers, Phillies and Rangers were the only teams to operate at a loss in 2016.

Edit 2: The Reds have completed their trade of Brandon Phillips to Atlanta; the Braves get Phillips while the Reds get two junk prospects, one of whom has had Tommy John twice and somehow managed to have an ERA+ of 66 in his only year of service ... and Cincinnati is also picking up almost all of Phillips' $14 million salary, which makes me wonder what in the hell they're smoking. That's a pretty nice get for Atlanta since Rodriguez could be out for the entire season (at least one Atlanta beat writer has reported that despite the team saying Rodriguez will be back in three to five months, the internal feeling at the team is that's a wildly optimistic projection).

Good move by the Reds, they have 2-3 guys that need to play in the infield to see if they are any good and Phillips would do nothing but complain if it took away from his playing time.

And it'll work out even better for Atlanta when they flip Phillips for 2 or 3 good prospects around June.

St. Louis is already having bad luck
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Alex Reyes has a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow and will get a second opinion, but season-ending Tommy John surgery is likely, a source told ESPN's Jim Bowden

KC too
Kansas City Royals reliever Brian Flynn won't be coming through the bullpen door anytime soon after falling through a barn roof on his property. The 26-year-old left-hander was working on his barn and fell through the roof, Royals manager Ned Yost confirmed Tuesday. Flynn suffered a broken rib and three minor vertebrae fractures in his back and will be out eight weeks, according to the team.

I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up. Maybe we're afraid to jinx it? Jeff Loria has a handshake deal to sell the Marlins.
I can understand the hesitation. A handshake agreement means nothing to this POS and he could easily back out.

Gary Carter died 5 years ago today... :(

Javy Baez sporting new ink, "I still have my legs and my back," he said".
I'm not a fan of body art, but let's hope he's covered in tats before it's over.

Shit.

David Wright's hurt again. :(

Sky blue, water wet. There must have been a stiff breeze.

Edit: I mean, I feel bad for the guy, but I really hope at some point he chooses to stop forcing himself to play baseball until he's permanently debilitated. His vertebrae are already basically grinding themselves into a fine powder.

David Price has had an MRI on his elbow and is going to Indianapolis to meet with Drs. Andrews and ElAttrache for a second opinion.

He dead.

And not a single fuck was given this day:
