The injury happened when he was in the middle of a bunch of teammates I think. So kinda getting pushed and jostled while hopping. Seems like it was more than just bunny hopping on it's own.

I just watched the video, and it was literally just hopping in a crowd, no jostling or anything like that. He wasn't in a dogpile or anything, everyone was just jumping.
It's just a freak injury, like Jason Kendall's ankle exploding as he touched first base, or Ryan Howard's Achilles snapping as he ran out a groundout, or the aforementioned Mariano Rivera blowing out his knee shagging fly balls. Hell, 30 years ago, this happened to my mom; she was walking along a sidewalk and an uneven paver tripped her up, she fell, and she tore the patellar tendon in her left knee along with fracturing her kneecap.
Rhys Hoskins tore his left ACL while fielding a grounder, and will possibly be out for the rest of the season.
Better ban spring training games.
