then be unable to pay anyone else?

The Cubs are worth more than $6 billion and continue to print money from owning like 90 percent of Wrigleyville. "Unable to pay" shouldn't be in their vocabulary, and yet here the Rickettses are, like a person experiencing homelessness, sitting outside on a curb by a Red Line station and jingling coins in a 7-Eleven Slurpee cup.

Even the Yankees and the west coast Yankees have limits, even if they are much higher limits than most teams.

The Ricketts' are full of shit tho.

The thing is, the Cubs' payroll is a drip in the bucket, same as it is with the Yankees and Dodgers (who are now worth double what they were when Guggenheim Partners bought them).

It's not a matter of them having an upper spending limit. It's them using the luxury tax precisely as intended: A tool for the owners to privately save money while publicly saying, "Look! We tried!"

I have the new OP for the new season thread written, but I'm spending a few days in the hospital for a minor procedure that should relieve a lot of the chronic pain in my leg / abdomen. So if I don't have it up right at 12:01 a.m. on April 1, hold your horses, I'll get it posted soon.

Hope everything goes smoothly with the procedure!

Happy Opening Day. Our Long Spring Training is finally over. Looking forward to seeing how the Giants do this year.

*You can move this post to whenever the new thread is made. It's no longer MLB's offseason.

Well, since we don't have a new thread yet, I'll post this here:

The Nationals and Mets game has been postponed because one of the Nat players tested positive for COVID.

Great start for the new season!

Put me in coach, It's Opening Day. :techman: :techman:

They stuck me in right field for my bat so I can relate to that.

I lost one in the Sun once and got konked on the head. Took me awhile to get over that. Then I switched to 1st base.
