The thing is, the Cubs' payroll is a drip in the bucket, same as it is with the Yankees and Dodgers (who are now worth double what they were when Guggenheim Partners bought them).

It's not a matter of them having an upper spending limit. It's them using the luxury tax precisely as intended: A tool for the owners to privately save money while publicly saying, "Look! We tried!"

It sucks that Georgians will lose out on jobs because of this move, but if people like Stacey Abrams support this action as a counter to voter suppression, then I'm all for it.
