Could the Captain of the USS Saratoga be Michael Burnham? This was the first female Captain to appear in Star Trek.

The actors look nothing alike, but sure, why not?

If she's still alive by that point, then it'd be no more strange a retcon than having that kid in the Iron Man mask turn out to be Peter Parker.

I think it would be quite problematic if, of Star Trek's pathetic handful of black female characters, two actually turn out to be the same person so we have one fewer than we even thought we had. The only connection made between the two characters in this 'theory' seems to be that they are black women who at some point were command track.

Well, I wouldn't say the two look nothing alike (a case could be made that the eyes are different), but other than that, the Saratoga captain looks enough like Burnham, with 20 years among humans, to at least start a conversation.

I can at least see why people might think that Geordi's mother is a descendant of the Saratoga captain - they're both played by Madge Sinclair. But to throw a link to Burnham into the mix? That might be stretching things a TON.
