Mariner's name

I think Mariner is around 30, at that age she could have served on DS9 during that series, yet have been on the 1701-D as a teenager (if they wanted to go that route, although I don't get the sense she was, I think it would have been name-dropped by now).

I think the problem with making her any older is that Carol only seems mid-50s, and I doubt she had Mariner when she was 15.

Also she could have served on DS9 as a cadet the way Nog did. She's definitely older than Boimler but not decades older. I have her early thirties in my head.

I'd say she's early 30's. Any older, she'd probably have settled down a bit. Younger, it would be a stretch for her pal to be a Captain.

Speaking of curious name changes, I'm waiting for LDS to make a thing about how Nick Locarno and Tom Paris are actually the same person, who changed his first name at some point, and then changed his last name from his mother's to his father's surname, possibly an attempt to imply "don't mess with me, I'm an Admiral's son" while in his penal colony. Almost a reverse-motivation to what Mariner did with her name change. As frequent as Paris has been cited in this show, I'm honestly surprised it hasn't come up in their meta way of poking at the older shows.

That would be awesome... even better than my often held head canon that while Tom Paris was recreating Sandrine's on Voyager's holodeck... a disgraced Nick Lacarno was drinking himself to death in the real one.

Beckett Mariner's initials are just the opposite of Michael Burnham's, with a male-sounding first name to boot. They're basically the same character, only one is more whinier and one is more of a crier.

And Mariner doesn’t whisper dramatically about The Buuuuuuuurn.
