Lower Decks Trailer Analysis

The turbolift thing was kind of dumb but it's just a small scene. Not something that should ruin a episode. I mean of the characters are good it seems like something that can be easily ignored. I mean I liked "Picard" for example yet I know having a Romulan or Vulcan wearing sunglasses is really silly looking. Same thing with some of the way to on the nose "present day speak" lines like you have the best Kung Fu and your replicator is tragic. I mean you can have characters talk more contemporary without tying it so specifically to a certain time that will make it feel more dated than even the special effects in 20 years. Still the show is good because of the characters and if I can ignore the future looking like the 60's because of how awesome Kirk/Spock/McCoy are then these are things we should be able to look pass.

I liked his TNG Recut parodies.

So good is subjective here.

Picard and Discovery also aren't they only Star Trek series he nitpicks. He has done videos in the past that covered all the series. Though I assume he does mostly DSC and PIC now because it gets the most views, or he genuinely dislikes the series.

His recuts are legendary, and he nitpicks new shows because they're new XD

and the series is already condemned and vilified by "the fans" who demand something new and different but must be the same old, same old.

Did you just make that up or are the same people asking for something new also asking for the same old as before?

I'm asking if there are people in this thread who are suggesting they want something new and different, and for it to be the same as before.

Because if no one's said that then @urbandefault's post makes no sense.
Yeah, that's what I've seen. So it made sense to me. If not in this thread specific then the General Discussion thread.

First and foremost, I'd like something entertaining. My preference is for them to move away from nostalgia as the calling card of CBS Trek. It can be done well, but the CBS shows simply haven't done it in my opinion.

Right now I'm reading "Drastic Measures" by Dayton Ward. Starring Commander Phillipa Georgiou and Lt. Commander Gabriel Lorca dealing with the Tarsus IV disaster from "The Conscience of the King". It is very well done, not smashing "look it is Star Trek!!1!" in your face.

So there's this however long it was trailer of a cartoon that's nowhere near release yet, and the series is already condemned and vilified by "the fans" who demand something new and different but must be the same old, same old.
I don't know if I'd say it's nowhere near release, it comes out in 2 weeks on Aug. 6.

I just saw the trailer. I thought they said it was going to be like Rick and Morty? Anyway, as John Mulaney would say, while impersonating Mick Jagger; NOT FUNNAAAAY!!!

I was debating whether or not to respond to this. I initially decided not to, but thinking about it further, I think I should.
It's stupid and Kurtzman deserves the hate heaped his way if making Trek like a comic book movie universe is really his intent to the point where he's making starships like magical fantastical places whose insides are bigger than the outside, then screw him.
No. He does not.

It's out of proportion. The turbolift exterior lasts for all of two seconds. Blink and you'll miss it. I did. As we obviously saw in this very thread. Does Alex Kurtzman deserve criticism? Sure. He's made choices not everyone is going to agree with. But a lot of the criticism is both exaggerated and has taken on a vicious tone from others.

Some of them are not just "criticizing" Kurtzman Trek. They're actively out to get it. There are those who want it to improve, there are those who want to be gone, and then there are those (not you) who've opted for Scorched Earth. No one deserves scorched Earth over a collection of TV shows. No one deserves the bile, the hatred, some of which is bordering on the level of "For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee!"

At the end of the day, the Kurtzman Era won't last forever anymore than the Roddenberry, Bennett, Berman, or Abrams eras did. Then the Fandom Menace will have a whole new regime to tear apart while simultaneously and retroactively referring to the Kurtzman Era as "The good old days. Maybe it wasn't so bad after all."

For previous examples of this happening: I cite DS9, VOY, and ENT which are getting the "they were better than I thought!" treatment right now, even as we speak. And, previously for Baby Boomers, I cite TNG. Laugh at me now, but the same thing will eventually happen to these new series. And we'll be around to see it.

I like that the uniforms have a colored corner pointing down into the black part at the bottom of the shirt, while the TNG ones had a black corner pointing up into the colored part!

I think this variant of the TNG uniform is probably my favorite. Leave it to an animated show to make TNG's aesthetics more appealing.

Just one of the Rick & Morty writers is the show runner.

I bet Dan Harmon writes at least one episode. I bet he will be saved for a special episode though. Are you read for Pickle Picard as Q is once again having a little good fun with his pet Captain.
