Le Tour de France 2009

Angry Angel

Vice Admiral
Admiral
It's starting this afternoon with an individual time trail through Monaco. Anyone going to follow it despite all the doping tragedies?

I don't have a TV just now so I won't be able to follow it that closely, but I'll follow it in the news. Doping seems to have been such a background part of the Tour in the past decade I apparently have tuned it out!

Oh, completely forgot, but the prologue usually is rather boring anyway.

eta: anyone but Armstrong please, though preferably not Contador either.

I'm hoping Menchov can maintain his Giro form. Not a fan of the Astana boys, so I'm with you on the no Contador and Armstrong. So far not too many surprises in the prologue; the favorites will be rolling out right about now.

And since we don't have cable I'm trying to keep up via internet and radio.

I'm also rooting for Menchov, maybe one of the Schlecks or Evans. My actual favourite would be Kreuziger, but that's a long shot. ;)

Well that was disappointing! Menchov took a hell of a lot longer than I would have expected/hoped for. Impressive what Cancellara and Contador showed.

I'm going to follow but not closely like I used to do before the Armstrong years (this guy made the Tour very boring, even Indurain didn't bored me like that).
Anyway, it will be hard to avoid it, it will be on TV everyday during 3 weeks.
I don't have a favorite, I just want an interesting Tour :)

187 km stage today, from Monaco to Brignoles. Not the easiest of stages in a first week, might be something for an escape with this profile.

No surprise today.
Actually, it should be a "Cavendish Festival" until Barcelone...

Shame about the escapees, but they just didn't get enough ground. Don't see them getting more chances till Barcelona either ... flat as a pancake all those stages.

Well, the fact that escapes are seldom successful in the Tour de France just makes it more exciting when it does work. ;)

True, just find it a shame for those hardworking fellas to be caught at the last moment. Especially now that there was a Dutch guy along of course ;)

Oh, they weren't caught at the last moment, they were nicely under the controle of the other teams ;)
The 1st week is never very interesting.

196 kms today, from Marseille to la Grande-Motte.

It's going to be flat for the last 95 kms so this one should be for the sprinters again and none of the big teams will want to waste too much energy for tomorrow's team time trial.

Hope for Cadel Evans to win just because he is an Australian.

I enjoy watching just because they go through some beautiful country side and they show some fantastic locations.

^^
Still wouldn't work if France weren't so beautiful. ;)

Interesting attack right now, maybe no mass sprint today?
