'Knee-deep in the hoopla' and other horrible song lyrics

For some reason I have had the Jefferson Starship song 'We Built This City on Rock and Roll' running through my head for the past day and a half, and while the entire song is super-cheesy, the line 'knee-deep in the hoopla' is just cringe worthy.

We haven't had a bad song lyrics thread in a while, what else ya got?

That's pretty odd, because I was thinking of what a stupid lyric that is just yesterday. It was also the name of the album. That whole song is crap. "Marconi plays the mamba"?!

I can't think of any more awful lyrics off the top of my head (but they will come). But here is one of my least favorite "rhymes" in all pop music:

"You're so gangster, I'm so thug. You're the one I'm dreamimg of"

I have to be honest. That was the first album I ever bought. And it was just Starship, not Jefferson Starship. Okay, technically, it was the fetid remains of JS, but there was a lawsuit and they decided to drop the Jefferson from their name.

Actually, I listen to that song just for that one line.

My vote:
"Forces of evil on a bozo nightmare
Ban all the music with a phony gas chamber
'Cause one's got a weasel and the other's got a flag
One's on the pole, shove the other in a bag..."

--Beck, "Loser"

Steve Miller is the king of forced lyrics.

I always thought that of Graham Bonnet. Every song he ever wrote seemed like it had way too many words crammed in.

Maybe a different idea of forced.

As far as Starship, if they didn't put "knee deep in the hoopla" into one of the songs, they'd never have justified the album title ;)

"Get crazy with the cheese whiz..."

Beck is a musician-poet who transcends genres even as he re-invents them.

"Come on Bender, remember when I wrote 'Devil's Haircut'? Wait, what's that song about again?" - Beck

"NO, the Rhyming Becktionary!"

Here's an oldie from Cole Porter:

"Where is the fun I used to find?
"Gone! Gone with the wind!"

Huh? Sure it looks good on paper, but since when does "wind" (as in a strong breeze) rhyme with "find"?
