Klingon BoP vs Defiant-class starship

A lot would depend on the skills of the captain and crew, but tech wise it's no contest.. the Defiant is a far superior vessel, with more than enough firepower.

yeah that was what I was thinking- the IKS Rotarran was pretty good- but the Defiant was like the harbinger of death- took out a lot of BoPs by itself.

The Defiant had Quantum torpedoes and ablative amour.

No contest!

I love the Defiant. Probably the best Starfleet vessel in history in terms of firepower, speed and its ability to give and take punishment relative to its size.

I always thought the Defiant was a bit too much of a godship really.

she was the Federations answer to the Bird of Prey- small, fast & agile (with a cloak added later) only thing is she carried so much firepower & at the same a high level of ruggedness never before seen on such a ship.

the Defiant was even able to go toe-to-toe with a refitted Excelsior class- old yes- but far larger. although both ships were holding back a bit. such is the power of the Defiant she was seen to blast thru bugships & BoPs with ease & debates on forums surround whether a Defiant could beat a Sovereign or Galaxy class etc. (depends on the writers I guess) thats why I think the Defiant is a Godship.

To be fair though the Godship in the end was destroyed.

For fire power, as has been said there is no contest. Although the BoP is one of my favourite ships, and this might just be to lazy writing (not really looked into it) but the time in service in the Klingon Defence Force gives it top marks.

yes she was destroyed - but only afterall the breen energy weapon disabled her & the crew inevitably had enough time to get to the escape pods.

as for the Valiant- it was disabled by the dominion dreadnought, all systems knocked out- it was a sitting duck but was still taking hits & yes the stars of the show made it to the escape pods in time.

Aye it was because of the Breen Energy Weapon but a Klingon BoP (I believe) survived that battle ;)

You know for a ship designed to fight the Borg it looked like the Defiant was doing pretty poorly against a Borg Cube in First Contact...

Nothing to do with looked like. No weapons, the loss of life support and adrift by the end of the battle.

yeah well we have no idea how long the Defiant had been in combat- & since a lot of ships were destroyed I think she did well. origiinally the writers wanted her destroyed.

Plus, as I understand it, the Defiant was simply the prototype for a new class of anti Borg ships. It was never intended to go into battle without a horde of sister ships.

The Valiant was run for months by a skeleton crew of cadets behind enemy lines with no repair or resupply. Despite this it was still functional. If they'd carried out their mission objective (get data on the dreadnought and inform Starfleet command) instead of playing heroes I reckon that ship could have been fully repaired and soon back in service.

If you see Way of the Warrior you'll see that during the middle of the episode when Sisko and co. rescue the Cardassians, the Defiant makes short work of the BoP after Sisko allows Worf to take the gloves off.

Is that a shock since the BoP is like 80 years old while the Defiant is still on the run out stage of a ships life. It does not take away from the fact though, if I was wanting to raid an enemy territory, then the BoP would be the ship of choice. It is the ultimate get in, do the business and get out ship. It has a proud history in the Star Trek Universe.
