Isn't the one year contract with Lori Ciana and the aftermath of it ending briefly covered in one of The Lost Years book? A Flag Full of Stars or Traitor Winds?

That was the Bantam novel World Without End. It wasn't the KEHL, though, that's from Sarek, but the "Back-to-Earth" movement.
