Khan’s starfleet jacket

balls

Commander
Red Shirt
When we see Khan on the Reliant he has a captain’s jacket on. I assume it belonged to Terrell. In the same scene Terrell is present with his full uniform. This is just a silly, worthless question, but what took place for Khan to acquire the jacket? I assume that Terrell wasn’t wearing a jacket under his spacesuit. Maybe it was left hanging in the transporter room. Okay, they beam up and maybe Khan sees it and says he wants it. Okay, so Terrell doesn’t have one. Does he ask to go to his quarters to get a new one? Were there multiple jackets hanging in the transporter room closet(like the one we see in TSFS)?
I get the use of the jacket coveys another layer of Khan taking over the ship, but why not have Terrell go without the jacket then? I know it’s a silly question…

Seems Khan's whole crew took Starfleet trophies; makes sense the boss would, too, since they're all one big happy family and all.

What this bodes for the original crew is unknown. Terrell and Chekov tell Kirk those poor folks were marooned on Ceti Alpha V, but they are under Khan's influence at the time. The freed but confused Chekov isn't consulted when Kirk at the conclusion decides to use his own ship to recover the crew from the planet, so we don't know if he now recalls the mass executions or was factually correct and truthful originally. Stripping of clothing and regalia from the crew could have taken place in either scenario.

So I've never paid attention to the details on that red jacket that Khan was wearing. Did it have the captain rank markings? In all my years of Trek enthusiasm, I have never, ever bothered to memorize the rank symbols from the monster maroons. So I thought it was just some random jacket from anybody. But if it was indeed a captain's jacket, then of course officers do keep more than one uniform.

How would Marla have a jacket first used over a decade after she went into exile?

Well, Khan somehow also had a worn-out, broken TWOK-era Starfleet belt buckle on his necklace, when those didn't exist in TOS either. He already had it on Ceti Alpha V, so it wasn't taken from Terrel or Chekov or the Reliant crew.

Can't find a picture with the rank insignia, but the jacket lining is white, rather than the tan that the regular jackets were, so it pretty much implied to be either Terrell's or Chekov's.

Luckily we were spared scenes of Khan trying on a jacket only to find it was too small, pinched the armpits or whatever, and then went looking for something less snug.

Transporter accident: the jacket was duplicated. It literally happens all the time.

On a serious note, maybe khan took Terrell’s jacket, then thought to give him a new one to him before leaving the two officers as traps for Kirk for some reason.

He did have the captain's rank insignia on.

There was a terrarium full of sand in Khan's quarters on the Reliant. When he needed a captain's jacket, he would lift the lid, reach into the shifting sands with a pair of forceps, and extract the newborn jacket from its mother cloth. Later, as the jacket... grew, followed madness... and deeeeaaaath.

Yeah, I don't know why Terrell having multiple jackets should be debated. I imagine his closet is like Kirk's in Beyond, filled with multiple identical jackets.
I wasn't debating if Terrell had multiple uniforms. I was just trying to understand the in universe time frame: They beam up to the Reliant. Khan takes Terrell's jacket. Does somebody escort Terrell to his quarters to get a new uniform and then they all go to the bridge? IMO, it just seems like a waste of time for Khan's crew to make sure Terrell has a full uniform.

I have a similar gripe about TUC. In the climax of the film, Scotty is wearing his vest (with white turtleneck) in engineering. He's in full uniform (with the gold undershirt) when they beam down to Khittomer. Yet, when they come back to the bridge, he's back with his vest and white turtleneck. Did they wait until Scotty went to his quarters to change before they all went to the bridge?

This is just the result of decades of re-watching all of these movies...
