KFC Star Trek Commercial

Someday, somebody's going to do a deep-dive oral history article on the Roddenberry Archive's short-film project they've been teasing, and they really should look into this commercial as a precursor to what they attempted. Having the actual actors dub over their voices is a big help, but even aside from that, the production value is unbelievable for a fast-food commercial.

That’s exactly what I thought.

It’s bizarre. Like an early, bad Deepfake.
YES! There is an uncanny valley thing going on here. The commercial actors mostly look like the TOS actors, but not quite. It's sorta like that Avengers game that tried to ape the look of the MCU films without using the likeness of the actors. Was this aired in the U.S.? I don't remember it.

Why was it airing in 2006? What significant Trek thing was happening that year? Beyond the remastered episodes airing, and ENT ending, that is.

(Wrong franchise!)

I guess Kirk pawned a book or something...

I don't remember it, either.

It sounds like they're using clips of the actual TOS crew's voices, but I can't imagine that being allowed because of union rules, etc., or Shatner ever approving such a thing, lol.

It almost seems like a fan-made parody, but that would be even weirder.

As I recall, it was an actual KFC ad. I remember seeing it more than once back in the day. The lighting was a wink-nudge to the production design of the first half of season one, as well as a way to fudge the appearance of the actors. I don't know if the voices are the real deal or well cast sound-alikes, though.

No, I don't remember this, and I'm sure nobody else does either.

edit - Looks like I was wrong.
