Just came into possession of an awesome 1701-D cutaway (pics warning!)

So my girlfriend tends to keep an eye on what's available on FreeCycle here in town (an online community where people give away stuff they don't want) and she comes up with some gems on occasion. Today was such an occasion, as I came home from work to find a massive, framed cutaway poster of the D sitting on our couch. And I mean massive, this thing is probably about a metre wide, if not more.

It was drawn by Christopher Cushman, who—as far as I can tell—did at least a couple of licensed Enterprise posters back in the early 90s. This one seems to date to the show's fifth season.

Anyway, here are a few pictures (I hope 1024x798 is okay, you can't see much detail in Flickr's next smallest size):

Wow! This is really really awesome!!!! I think I remember seeing this in a magazine once.

Would you be able to do me a favour, I am curious to know what it states in the info about all the other Enterprise, specifically, who they name as the captain of the Enterprise-B.

I notice the E-B is depicted in standard Excelsior-class configuration, rather than what we saw in Generations :P

I have one too. There's a whole series of them by a company called SciPubTech. Looks like you can order direct or of course rummage Ebay if you want to try and score a deal.

Thomas Johnson Jr. is named as the Captain of the B. It's obviously pre-Generations, yeah. ;)

I have that same cutaway, but not with the fancy LCARS around it. Strange.

Very impressive! Especially on Freecycle (the local one here, you have to watch it like a hawk to grab anything decent).

Pretty neat, and it looks fairly accurate too -- except its officer/enlisted ratio doesn't seem to fit what we saw onscreen, where enlisted personnel were extremely rare. Also, shouldn't the fuel be deuterium and antideuterium rather than deuterium and antihydrogen? There'd be a ton of leftover neutrons in the latter case...

Wow... that is awesome! You were lucky to find one in such good condition, and framed! My best friend used to have this poster. I remember it well. :)

I noticed that too. Odd, considering that by S5 it was pretty well-established that enlisted personal were fairly rare. I think it's a more logical number, but you're right in that it doesn't fit what we've seen.

And yeah, the fact that it's framed makes it even better. That wouldn't be cheap for such a large poster.

EPIC FIND!!!!! I'd say your girlfriend is a keeper!

She really is!

(so much so that dave should overlook the fact that she wants to get a very unconventional pet, and just go with it...)

Fantastic.

Is cetacean ops in there?

Damn, that's a beast!

I'm falling back in love with the Enterprise D right about now...

Not that I've noticed, though there's every possibility I've just missed it so far.

Cryogenic, I know how you feel. The Galaxy class is a design I go back and forth on, but looking at this I get a much better idea of the sheer scale of the ship, and it becomes all the more impressive.

I have that exact cutaway sitting in a closet, waiting for a good wall to hang from. I was thinking about selling it, but it would be really cool on my wall, too. Hmm, decisions, decisions...

Re: Just came into possession of an awesome 1701-D cutaway (pics warni

I had this poster when I was about 10... It was on my wall until left for college. I still have it rolled up somewhere... not in this good of condition... I think when I was a kid I used some blue stick'em to put some extra LCARS buttons on it and pretended I was in engineering or something... It was an INCREDIBLY detailed poster... even showing people sleeping in the beds in some of the staterooms... very, very cool.

If I remember, there was a TOS version of this as well... they were featured in The Communicator back in the day, probably around 1990 or 1991 and were both about $30, luckily my parents loved me and I was only child so I got the TNG one, but never the TOS one...
