Jennifer Lien in trouble again?

I think that being fired from Voyager for no reason at all after doing a great job for three years was a severe dissapointment for Jennifer. It might have contributed to her bad mental health in the long run.

Do we know there wasn't more to it? Actors leave shows all the time for a variety of reasons.

That Lien barely worked after her exit from Voyager suggests there may have been factors other than the quality of her work on camera which led the series producers to part with her after the third season.

I wonder if those linking her current substance abuse issues with her exit from the series have things the wrong way round.

I'm not sure if being fired was the thing that help make her life spiral out of control. In fact if she had major mental health issues it might have even contributed to it.

Anyone who is a fan and is on the outside looking in is going to search for some rationalization that gets a troubled celebrity off the hook and casts them as a hapless victim of "the machine".

A couple stories from the music industry that come to mind...

Dave Mustaine was fired from Metallica and even though he carried a chip on his shoulder forever because of it, he did manage to build his own successful band. Maybe a big driving force of his career from then onward was revenge, but at least he put that negativity to productive use. On the flipside you have someone like Vinnie Vincent from Kiss who seemed to alienate anyone and everyone he ever had business dealings with. He effectively alienated himself from the entire industry with his inflexible my-way-or-the-highway attitude.

I feel sorry for someone like Lien but at the end of the day she's a grown-up and it's her responsibility to figure out how to make it through life without winding up in the local police-blotter.

Dave Mustaine was in Metallica? Strange that he's never mentioned it. :wtf:

Frequent relapses are part of the recovery process. Or they feature with the recovery process to put it more precisely.

Clean cut recoveries, no relapses? Never happens. Just never happens. Recovery is always messy and never a given.
Seems reasonable. For her sake, I hope you are right, sir.

maybe there are some other reasons for her problems....

jennifer lien lives in tennessee harriman (in 2015 and/or may be now in kingston)
(other sources also claim she lived in oak ridge, hesperia ca and los angeles ca)

her son jonah lives in san bernadino ca
from san bernadino to harriman it's over 2000 miles.
i wonder why she is living so far away from her son......

also interesting, her husband says on facebook he's single.
(the field is not filled in automatically, you have to fill it in consciously)
so why did he say he is single ?

maybe they're already divorced......

and another reason:
doesn't jennifer work as a nurse?
if you have alcohol problems, you won't be working there for long.

i mean
may be jennifer lost her husband, her job and hmm her son is also far away.......
sounds not very good

may be jennifer should work as an actress again.
(i wonder if she's reading our messages......)

Before Voyager, Jennifer had a lot of work in TV-series and voiceover.

As for the infamous "drug rumor", back in the old days when I was very p***ed over the fact that Kes was written out and Jennifer kicked out, I did a lot of research on this subject.

I didn't find any evidence at all that Jennifer had been kicked out due to drug problems. In fact, the "drug rumor" had started earlier about another actor but for some reason it spilled over to Jennifer after she was fired.

There have been other cases when people have been fired from shows for different reasons and in those cases it has become common news why they were fired.

When Shannen Doherty "left" Beverly Hills, it was common knowledge that she had been a pain in ther a** for almost everyone involved with the show.

When Gary Dourdan "left" CSI, it was also common knowledge that he was kicked out due to drug abuse.

Same for Charlie Sheen when he was dumped from 2 1/2 Men.

But I've never found any evidence that Jennifer was dumped because of doing drugs then.

Her long absence after Voyager, her weight gain followed by a fast weight loss and over again might point at a depression caused by being kicked out from the show.

I guess that she might have had some mental problems before that but being kicked from Voyager might have been the first heavy nail in the coffin.

Dave Mustaine was fired from Metallica due to heavy drug abuse.
Fortunately he became a Christian and the faith helped him to get his life in order again.
However, I still have a feeling that he hasn't totally forgiven Metallica for firing him.

I would assume she is not reading this. It has been over 20 years since she was a regular on Star Trek, and that was only for a few years. I'm sure it was an exciting and fulfilling time, but she has done a lot of living since then, and also has much more immediate concerns. But I also acknowledge the truth in DS9's "The Emissary," that some of us are not linear.

That's right!
I'm not linear.
I still live in the 24th century.
Everytime I watch TNG, DS9 or Voyager, I hear a voice saying: "You exist here!"
And that's the truth.

In that case, it's a shame your prime directive forbids you to divulge insanely useful information to us pre-warp barbarians, such as how to build a replicator.

Here's a question that I hope hasn't been asked; Have any of the cast from Voyager commented about the most recent incidents regarding Jennifer? I'm not talking about her leaving the show, but about what has been going on recently.

I'm vaguely reminded of the story behind Michael O'Haire leaving Babylon 5

I still suspect the possibility of sexual abuse which is something I never even considered before but nowdays I do. She started off in the business as a child which is like a pandora's box of potential abuse of one variety or another.

as far as i know nobody of the cast said anything.

about jenny leaving the show...
kate mulgrew said in the past that they all were so sad etc....
if I ever went to a convention, I'd ask kate mulgrew,
why nobody stood up for jennifer.

she said they were all one big family.....
but nobody said if jennifer gets fired, we all stop.

What I have heard from some reliable sources, they were all very upset about Jennifer being fired.

But I guess that no one really dared to challenge the "gods" of the Star Trek Universe in the long run.

What do you expect them to do? All go on strike unless she was reinstated? Actors get fired from TV shows all the time, it's the way things work.

Assigning blame to Kate Mulgrew or Rick Berman for Jennifer Lien going off the rails twenty years later is absurd. You're essentially arguing with the benefit of hindsight that if she had stayed on the show, she would be in a better place today. No one can say that.

I don't blame Mulgrew for anything. At least she had the decency to show unhappiness about the whole thing.

I don't blame Berman entirely for what's happening today but I do blame him for being a jerk in the first place.

Was he a jerk though for just firing someone? I mean people get fired all the time. I mean I have read things were I find him kind of suspect as a person but i'm not sure if just firing someone because he wants to add a character he thinks will increase the ratings count as that. If they fired Wong I am guessing many people today would be talking about how he got the shaft as well. Especially since I always got to figure that UPN must have had a even bigger impact in making some of these choices from choosing Lien to the Seven of NIne, catsuit. I know when I got fired because my panic attacks I didn't have much of a grudge towards the lady who was kind of my boss. She just answered to someone up higher and to a system they had in place for people who couldn't do their job. It was a unfair system but the lady who I talked to had nothing really to do with it.

Yes, I think that he was a jerk for firing someone who had done an excellent work for three years. He should have fired himself, Braga and Taylor instead. They would have been better suited to produce "Baywatch" or something similar.

I've been in the same situation twice, the last time was 8 months ago when I was kicked out from a job I've had for years due to "economical reasons".

I don't accept that decision because it was based on pure greed and narrow-minded thinking. I haven't forgiven the person in charge who I think was an incompetent fool and I do hope that the whole company will go down.

"My love is vengeance That's never free"

I managed to get another job shortly after but I don't like that place and I'm planning to get out of there as soon as possible. Right now, I do my job the best I can and count the money each month.

In fact, the recent events, both when it comes to the "Lien affair" in recent years plus my own misfortune the last months have put me in a bad mood which is the main reason that I haven't been posting here as much as I used to do before.
