James Cameron's Avatar Novel--anyone else excited?

When he first started talking about doing a novelization for the film last winter I got excited. Now the story from the LA Times that was on trek today reported that he's doing a prequel...not really sure what he's writing since he's claimed both. It's supposed to come out in time for the holidays and fill in the back story we didn't see in the movie with small hints to come for the sequel. He also said that he hopes the book to serve as a kind of bible for other authors to work from and create an Avatar EU. Is there anyone else excited about this? I'm eager to see what he comes up with.

*gets ready to set up an avatar D20 system game* think I can convincingly wedge Avatar into the Alien/Predator verse?

No 3D text, no sale.

Pop up book followed by the extended novel with deleted pages.

:techman:

A pop-up book would make the freaky alien sex certainly...interesting.

I'm interested in checking out some new Avatar material, not so much a prequel. Guess I'm just burned out on the prequel craze.

I'd love if Cameron made a deal with DK Publishing so that we could get a Visual Dictionary or Ultimate Guide. I think the franchise is just screaming for a book like that. I didn't really think much of the film but I did enjoy the aspects of his universe building so I'm looking forward to this, whatever it turns out to be.

Maybe James Cameron should think about making a expanded universe "Avatar" set of novels, comics and figures. Watch out Lucas!

So....we'd have "Heir To Eywa" where Jake Sullys human form is cloned as Jaaaake suullly and comes to Pandora to kick his Avatar self's ass? And they reveal that one of the reasons the humans showed up is that one of the Na'vi secretly contacted them and is in reality a tatical genisus working for humanity?

That would be awesome. They really do great books

He will claim anything as long as someone pays attention to him. He's a nut.

The novelization would be canon and I think Cameron intends on whatever novels spews forth from the first one to be canon.

No. Avatar sucked.

Haha. What he said.

Add me to that.

I was over "Avatar" about an hour and a half into the film. Unfortunately for me, I was only about HALF WAY through the fucking thing!

I don't think the film sucked per say (It wasn't as bad as House of 1000 Corpses.) but I was meh about it and while I only saw it in 2D I don't think seeing it in 3D would change my opinion much.

I saw it twice in 3D and once in 2D on a huge TV.

It makes a difference. Avatar is the one and only movie inn which NEEDS to be watched in 2D. The story is lame and rehashed, however the #D makes you feel like you are living in the world again.
