Is T'Pol really so bad as people say?

She was terrible.. I mean how could she have gotten that coveted job, when there are so many would-be Vulcan Science Officers within our very midst!! How could that rat bastard and murderer of the franchise, Bermaga, realise that the very epitome of Thespian Genius resides right here. Put us in that catsuit, Bermaga, and we'll show you how it should have been and the highly rated televisual feast you deprived of your loving fanbase!!! I'm so angry I just kicked an orphan.
As long as we're nitpicking, you really need to brush up on your grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Bermaga is plural.

Incorrect:

Correct:
How could those rat bastards and murderers of the franchise, Bermaga, not realize that the very epitome of Thespian Genius resides right here?

Nonono!! Bermaga is one big huge franchise killing beast!! And while we're at it they should have gotten a real vulcan to play T'Pol!!

Wow, you have really high standards. Good luck with that.
:p

Amazingly I've kind of gone off T'Pol with repeated viewings. I love the flawed Vulcan character though and I think my going off her is because of bad acting. When she's awash with scary emotions after getting off trellium-d, and knows she may never regain control it seems that the only way Blalock can convey this is by twitching and shifting her eyes back and forth. It took about my 5th viewing of ENT to find this quite tedious and irritating. I still love the character, I just have to get over my increasing dismay at the acting quality of Blalock.

As for Blalock herself.... I thought she nailed the role of T'Pol perfectly. I've never seen anything else she's done, so she might be horrible in other roles (I don't know). I've also heard that she can come off as something of an airhead at conventions. But all that aside, I honestly don't see the problem with how she acted on ENT.

She only went to like 2, so I don't think she got a chance to adjust to it - considering she drew crowds like Shatner and was totally green to the whole thing.

When I was in high school a good friend of mine used to spend hours talking about pon farr, Vulcan mating, what certain things look like if you have green blood, Spock, Spock, Spock..

It was wonderful stuff.

^ OMG, are you suggesting that some people have thought of Spock in a sexualized manner? THE HORROR! :shifty:

I'll plead guilty. On all accounts . . . :alienblush:

T'Pol wasn't too bad . . . I'd take her over Seven of Nine any day. But she was hard to stomach when ENT began because she reminded me of Seven so much.

She was fabulous in Twilight though. And absolutely gorgeous, she kind of reminded me of Angelina Jolie.

She played a Vulcan better than Russ, IMO. I seem to recall she was a TOS fan and wasn't always in agreement with producers on how T'Pol was written. She ( and the make up people) were responsible for the more Vulcan eyebrows in later seasons. She gave some good performances. Carbon Creek and the Terra Prime arc come to mind.

I liked the character and the actress, I just think they both got saddled with some poor story decisions. But that was a problem with the whole show, not just with T'Pol.

I'm incredibly biased. First, I'm a huge Vulcanophile. Ginormous. So she already wins because she has pointy ears and suppresses emotions.

Second, I -- a straight woman who has never, ever been bi-curious -- find Jolene to be incredibly beautiful... like "OMG I can't stop looking at her, she's so pretty" beautiful. So, as I believe it is for a man who is attracted to her, I tend to ignore any flaws because she's so darn pretty.

See how pretty (yes, it's totally work safe)

Third, I find the character's journey through the third and fourth season to be quite interesting. Granted, I wasn't a fan of the drug addiction aspect -- I think they could have merely used the pa'nar that she already had instead.

All the characters in ENT suffered from bad writing from time to time. And they suffered from "meh, it's okay" writing. But there were moments where they got to shine as well.

Honestly, T'Pol and Trip got the best character development in the series, I felt.

And teacake: Soval is mine. ;)

Jolene has a few really bad acting moments on ENT, but she certainly wasn't the 7-year mess we got from Marina and the 6-year mess we got from Gates.

Why do so many people have a problem with Beverly?

Is it because she gave birth to Wesley?

I liked the drug addiction because it shows she continued to choose to experiment. Being a scientist she could easily delude herself that it was totally under control.

I just wish we had gotten to see her taking E2 T'Pol's advice! I do think her and 7 of 9 have huge character development compared to many others. T'Pol's flawed Vulcan-ness also makes a lot of ENT about Vulcans in general which we haven't seen since TOS. It was great to have Vulcans and their choices and culture so prominent and not be just one off pon-farr eps.

I am quite happy to share. Anything to please Soval :rommie:

What a great character he is! Also extremely good looking. He would have been wonderful as Sarek in ST:XI (I've never been able to choke down Ben Cross as Sarek, one of my very very few minor quibbles with that movie. He just didn't look very Vulcan to me.)
