So without meaning to be mean the actress seems to of piled the weight on, is she pregnant or unwell? It can't be a character trait as we frequently see Tilly exercising in S1/S2.

This should be interesting. I have been waiting for this thread...

Somewhat related, maybe...
In last two seasons of Bones (which lasted 12 seasons, great show BTW), Emily Deschanel IRL had a child and was noticeably "bigger". The show by that time was in noticeable decline and soon ended. I'm not saying her getting bigger was the main reason the show ended, but anyone who says they watched that show only for the science, and not because the two leads were noticeably attractive, are lying to you. Could it have lasted another season or two if she didn't just have a child and changed physically? Who knows... Both her and David Boreanaz were ready to move on from the show anyway.

Mary Wiseman is a good actress but even with that, if Star Trek Discovery was shot in 80s or 90s producers would probably force her to go on a diet or even fire her. I read somewhere that Gates McFadden and Marina Sirtis had somewhere in their contract a stipulation that they had to fit into their costumes. (80's for ya)
We live in the age of inclusion, so even if she gained a few pounds here or there, it's not going to effect her, Star Trek, or the role she plays in it. Is it noticeable she is bigger than previous seasons? Yes... we're not blind. Does it effect anything? Not really.

Yeah, cause it's not like those damn, god-awful-tight "Hollywood" StarFleet Uniforms are the most appealing thing to wear for the everyday-average-person or something...

(have you ever been to a Trek Cosplay Convention?)

The actress looks fine. But as for the character, we have to remember that she just had a very stressful couple years. That she neglected her exercising (perhaps when the CTP began focusing on mental acuity instead of physical regimen) is understandable. We've also seen her stress eat before.

No one on the show is commenting on it, because it's none of their business and she's a valued member of the team, their family.

The only issue (and I would take that issue whether the person in question was male, female, genderfluid+) is that as a Star Fleet officer and somebody who works on a spaceship, shouldn't she "realistically" be in better shape?
I mean that's also the reason why people make fun of "chubby Riker", after all and why I have stated several times on these forums that I thought Shatner was too out-of-shape to be believable as a "space age hunk".

But yeah that alone, while a bit distracting, doesn't really take away from the show or Tilly's character.

I genuinely hadn't noticed any difference in how she looks compared to the other two seasons and I've never had an issue with how she looks regardless. I'd rather have a body-positive Star Trek, than one that has strict rules about characters being a certain size for a sense of "realism".

I honestly haven't noticed any change in her appearance. Googled some images from season one, and I guess there is a difference but I wouldn't say she looks unwell

Does it really matter? Having been to countless Trek conventions since 1983, I can safely say without equivocation that around 70-80% of the fandom (maybe more) appear to look “overweight” or “unwell”, myself included. My only saving grace is that I happen to be 6’5” tall with a thankfully large frame and I don’t necessarily appear to be terribly overweight. However, by most medical and/or mathematical standards, I am. Finding shoes that will fit my 14-wide feet is a bitch too. I honestly don’t think anyone on this BBS should be casting stones about anyone else’s appearance.

Recommend [/thread].

Hitting ones 60's also tends to be a drag on one's appearance, believe me.
:ack:
