Is this episode a bit "problematic"?

IIRC, according to the TNG Companion the actual intent with the Pakleds was they were based on the stereotypical American male, fat, lazy and stupid. Basically they're a society consisting entirely of Homer Simpsons and Peter Griffins.
Well, they might have provided a visual cue by including some kind of Dallas Cowboys memorabilia in the set dressing.

And Picard's surprise when he woke up.

I didn’t really see the Pakleds as targeting people with any specific cause of mental disability, or even a disability at all. They were clearly smarter than they let on. Though not a lot smarter.
Really have not much else to say, though. But I imagine when creating a characture of stupidity might make people with those disappointed.

I don't think I've ever seen this episode properly. I only know the version from General Grin where they need help because their ship has broken down, so Picard tractor beams them to safety and then straight into a sun.

I never had a problem with the Pakleds. When you get right down to it, they're on the same mission as Starfleet. They both look for things.

Definitely an episode to be infuriated by and offended about.

Demand consequences for everyone involved.

Nah... that's not what I was thinking. I am not really infuriated, and this is not some "anti woke" rant, is it? I am not a liberal. And i do not want anything "cancelled."

I don't have a problem with the Pakleds. I have a problem with the ridiculous story. Riker is dumb enough to send his chief engineer alone on an away mission to a strange ship run by a people they've never encountered before? The Pakleds are supposedly deeply stupid, but the only way one of the most powerful starships in the galaxy can manage to get Geordi back is a hammy con about a crimson forcefield? And, meanwhile, the only person in the Federation who has the medical skill to deal with Picard's condition is Pulaski? Ugh.

The only good thing about the episode are the shuttle scenes between Picard and Wesley. The sandwiches also look tasty. And Picard even drinks coffee!

I’m not sure if it is any more problematic than “Code of Honor”, “Justice”, “Angel One” or “Up the Long Ladder”.

"Samaritan Snare", I think, is worse than these two...

"Code of Honor" - at least it has the first scene in TNG of the Data/Geordi friendship. And Jessie Lawrence Ferguson was a fantastic presence. Fight at the end was fairly unique with how it was done.

"Up The Long Ladder" - at least it has the tea scene, which was another great one for Pulaski. Plus highlighting how great she is with her patients. And Brenna Odell was hot.

As for "Justice" and "Angel One", both are difficult to find good in them, so "Samaritan Snare" does feel like it's better than them. The shuttle scenes here were really good, actually.
