Is Nana Visitor the dumbest stage name of all time?

"Django" also happens to be both the title and the name of the protagonist in Italian director Sergio Corbucci's second-best spaghetti western, a landmark in the genre. Corbucci's choice was also inspired by the musician Reinhardt.
Not to mention, Django Fett... oh wait.

Best, or worst, part is this BB Gun Gally character isn't even an actor:mad:

BOOTROS-BOOTROS GALLY is his real name dudes!

When I first heard of'im I was like:
“No way dude:eek:! That's his real name:wtf: Bumber! ”

BB Gally is some politician guy UN dude from some foreign country-like place.

I'd take NANA VISITOR anyday over
BOOTROS-BOOTROS GALLY:hugegrin:

Yes. It is his real name -- well, sort of. It's "Boutros Boutros Ghali," and he's former secretary general of the U.N.

News flash: People who are not from the West don't usually have Western-style names. And why should they? Seeing as he's Egyptian, I don't really think his parents worried too much about how his name would sound to Western Trek fans when they picked it out. I assure you, many Western names would sound perfectly silly to Middle Eastern ears. It's all part of this wacky and wonderful world in which we live.

While I always wondered just how to pronounce her first name, I never thought the name was all that strange.

It always just seemed slightly unusual to me, but only slightly. If she'd not obviously been from some place where English was her first language, I wouldn't have thought about it for even a second. But since there she was, speaking English without an accent (or at least without what would have sounded like an accent to my Americanized ears), I did wonder, but not very much.

It's a very good name. Not only that, but it's memorable too. The son must have been named after the Western hero Django?? Probably Siddiq's idea.

Her poor son's name is Django El Tahir El Siddig. Django? WTF?

Scott

I swear, it's this kind of mentality that keeps people in the first grade sandbox.

It's the 21st century, we're living in an increasingly globalized world where you can talk to people from different hemispheres over Skype, and we're worried about the kid's name? That's the true "WTF."

Besides, if his name is an attempt to get him to be one of these characters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqNJHo6l9KU then his parents are smarter than we give them credit for. Go Nana and Siddig!

I think it's a neat name. I mean, "Nana Tucker" sounds a bit too "local" for a Hollywood actress, no? ;)
The fact is that many of the actors in DS9 have at least one name that is odd or difficult to pronounce.
That's one of the things that really struck me about DS9 - a principal cast list with non-Western-traditional names, reflecting quite a wide ethnicity spread. :)
^ Yep. Rene's last name is one example.

But how about the first name of 'Cirroc'? Or 'Armin'? Not exactly names you run into every day. And even once Sid changed his name to Alexander Siddig, 'Siddig' is not exactly an everyday name either.

Shoot...even 'Avery' isn't used all that commonly. Or, at least I don't know any other Averys IRL.
You have to admit, "Alexander" is a great name, though. ;)

On the other hand, "Avery" was the name of one of the supporting characters in the book Charlotte's Web - he was Fern's brother, if I recall. (It's probably not that uncommon in that part of the world...)

It could be alot worse.

2 local kids: Lemongello & Orangello
2 brothers: Eldest: Anthony
Baby: Tony (not kiddin')

Another lady couldn't figure what to name the twins, looked on the dr report lying near the bed: aha! G'norrhea & S'Phyllis (not kiddin)

So Nana Visitor is pretty tame

I don't find itto be a bad name, a little unusual sounding maybe but who are we to judge.

I remember a long time ago she was at a convention here in the city, and she explained her name, but it was years ago, I think I was 10 at the time so I don't remember.

Well personaly it wasn't about finding non-western names strange, it was about strange names period. I had no problem with Siddig El Fadil. It's an Arab name and that's what the man is. Now Nana Visitor is supposed to be a "Western Person" or whatever (more like anglo-saxon) and the name just sounds odd.

The same way Django isn't an Arab name or anything (seems it's Gypsy). It does sounds funny.

And now that someone mentions it, Cirroc Lofton is an hell of a strange name.

Again this isn't about names being non-western (hell I bet many Americans wouldn't know how to pronounce my name correctly, however it's a standard Portuguese name) but some names simply are funny sounding, specially considering the origin of the person in cause as is the case here.

I'm quite tolerant of other ethnicities and their names..but somes names are indeed funny (not dumb though..).

For the record, Bhoutros is a common Egyptian Coptic name though it's repetition always was a funny thing to me.

Bootros-Bootros Gally would be my choice for a stage or pen-name.

My pen or stage name of Bootros-Bootros Gally, or BB Gun for short, would generate threads like this here one on my aficionado's message boards:hugegrin:

Oh, and FYI to Aquehonga--"Boutros" is the Arabic rendition of the name Peter. Derives from the Greek "Petros."

^ You know, now that you mention it, MNM, I don't think I did either. It doesn't sound, you know, stagey.

wow you people are something. "Armin not exactly a name you run into every day" just cause its not common in your neck of the woods doesnt mean it isnt everywhere else I know about 12 people named Armin out here in Los Angeles, I would hate to see what you would say about my first name.
