Is Lady Gaga a hero?

What does this have to do with Lady Gaga?

The general answer is up to each individual and how they view the act of heroism and the person involved.
For me, someone with as drug habit(depending on the drug) shouldn't be considered a role model.
However, depending on the situation and act it's possable I might consider them a hero.
YMMV.
"Hero" is in the title field and the discusion has at times veered into what constitues a hero.

Are all heroes role models? The guy who risks his life to save another is a hero. But is he a role model outside of that act? Does he act in such a selfless manner in all aspects of his life? I'm not sure you can conflate the two.

That's what YMMV means.
(your mileage may vary)
It's up to each individual to decide of what makes a hero or role model for themselves or those they are responsable for, which is why we're still debating if Lady Gaga quilfies or not. Which I've been trying to explain by bringing up parents and if they feel Gaga is an appropriate "hero" for their kids to admire. Is she even a hero by our own adult definition?

Huh. I don't post for a day and it all blows up :(

Anyway, I have amended my mistake. She may, in her fans's opinions have talent, but in my opinion I don't think she's very good. In my eyes, she just branches off of the "supersexy pop star" genre that made many other artists that I don't like famous. Maybe it's because I'm one of those rare, rare individuals who thinks that sex should stay in the bedroom that I think she's bad. Anywho, because I'm posessed of this old fashioned opinion, maybe that's why I don't like her. But the fact is I don't, and arguing the point will only get us all angry at eachother.

I don't think anyone is arguing the point whether or not someone LIKES Gaga or even HAS to.

I think the point is if you're going to not LIKE her it should be on grounds of taste (which is an opinion) rather than "lack of talent" which isn't true.

she isn't quite as conventionally attractive as other pop stars.

I don't think she's attractive at all.

At least not now. That early shot with just her at the piano, she did look kind of cute then. But then again, pop stars don't dare look "cute", do they? :sigh:

She certainly looks more emaciated these days. In fact, it seems to have made some people think that she's a dude. I'm not entirely sure that's intentional, although she did play up her sexual ambiguity for quite a long time.

I think it's on purpose because she even makes fun of it in the extended version of video for "Telephone".

I think the point is, she has talent (acoustic version of Poker Face proves it) and she likes to not wear clothes. It's a biting social commentary.

If she doesn't fuck herself up with drugs and alcohol. Maybe...

See, I think that you're just not paying attention if that's what you think of her. Gaga is not a "supersexy pop star" -- the whole point of her public persona is that she subverts the tropes employed by the "supersexy pop stars" like Britney, Christina, Katy Perry, etc. That's why she dresses like a drag queen instead of a woman.

I don't know if this was the thread where I said it but Gaga us an ugly sexy. Very different and very daring if you ask me.

Yeah, she's not really any kind of conventionally attractive pop star. She does her own thing and that's cool with me. :techman:

Honestly, I don't think it matters either way because he already admitted that he thinks any musical star that's overly sexual offends him and regards them as talentless because of it. Being a Prince fan myself, it gave me something to laugh at. I think if anyone in modern music can prove that overly sexual doesn't = talentless, it's him.
