Indiana... let it go.

Has anybody ever had to let go of something precious in order to save his own life/or soul? I just had to. Strangely enough, that scene in Last Crusade has always been one of my favorite scenes in movies. So in a way, I feel like Indiana Jones right now. That's kinda nice.

But the real shame is actually that on Youtube there only this crappy version of the scene.

I don't think the point of that scene was letting things go but rather Henry Sr reaching out to his son. but YMMV.

^ Actually, it's both. Henry was definitely telling him to let go of pursuing the grail, because his life was in peril at that moment. But this was also a special bonding moment between them.

Jarod, that's a pretty profound thing to openly say and since you posted about it here, it does beg the question... what did you have to let go of to save your own life/soul? I hope it's not something tragic.

Yeah, the scene in Last Crusade has multiple layers.

In addition to what was said above, the Grail was Henry Sr.'s life's obsession. By telling Indiana to let it go, he was telling Indiana that he, Indiana, was more important to him than his life's obsession.

That was a powerful scene in my favorite of the Indiana Jones films.

I've had to make agonizing choices between ambition and family. That's significant but also painful. Nevertherless, I too am curious as to what the RL circumstances are.

Interesting. It's made me think, and I've realised there are things I haven't let go of, and cannot let go of, because they are unfinished business. And I have to finish it. There is no other way.

Well said. Indeed, Henry was the one most obsessed with the Grail, and then you have Indiana seeing the enormous goal just out of reach and he's so compelled to go for it. But the danger is so great... And like you said, Henry is able to let go of it and tell his son, meaning that Indiana is far more valuable to him than the Grail.

In the scope of my of my own life I've seen people put ambition over family, and in some cases they eventually realized what they were doing and backed off, while others didn't and ended up destroying what they had (divorce). Being wealthy and alone without real love is just a terrible place to be.

Another thing that is prudent to let go of is the past. The odds are usually very strongly against it. You can make peace with it, though. You just have to move on and let it go.
