(IMDB) Abrams to Purists: "Don't Waste Your Time"

He's always had that attitude, i.e. "you either buy our interpretation or not" when it comes to canon as this isn't just being made to please a select crowd as the TNG films and most series after TNG obviously were.

I kind of feel bad for Bob Orci when he comes to these places though. He takes the time out to talk to people and while some are appreciative there's always others who turn around and throw abusive hissy fits about various issues ("the bridge doesn't look exactly like it did on the original series! No Shatner! NOT CANON!!1! U SUCK LMAO LOL!!!!11!") and I think it's just stupid that these idiots are making us appreciative fans look bad.

Isn't this pretty much Abrams doing the same thing Edward James Olmos did for nuBSG?

I enjoy the fact that people like Bob Orci post. Yes he might have to endure some unique behaviour, but as a fan I'm sure he's seen rationality etc go flying out the window on many occasions.

For the record I would've liked some variation in the tones of the bridge, so rather than just white there could have been silvers and greys. The bridge of the Kelvin looked less futuristic, but more dynamic IMHO because of the scheme they went with for it. I also would've preferred a slightly more traditional look for engineering. It didn't have to be a carbon copy, but in the same way they kept the general design of the bridge, transporter room and uniforms something resembling the general aesthetics of the original design would've been nice.

I agree that many take their critiques and turn them into bashing, but unfortunately there will always be those that feel making as much noise as possible validates their opinions. I'm sure Bob is certainly able to wade through posts offering nothing but abuse. Naturally everyone will have something they didn't completely agree with or like, but on the whole the reaction has been positive. I'd be curious to hear what Bob didn't like as I'm sure that being part of the a production, but not having complete control over it would've meant there is something that he wasn't too keen on. An insider fan view of the changes would be a great discussion point!

Old Kirk's dead. Tolian Soran got him. Jim, he's dead. Purists, if they think they're "keeping the flame", need to move on. I've no time for that crap.

So, why the hell are you on this board? Seriously, why -is it- that fans of this film seem to be saying "If you're over 30, or liked anything before NuBSG was made, you should just fuck off and die already. We don't need or WANT you anymore."

Honestly, this attitude puts me off this film more than anything about the film itself.
