Spoilers I think I cracked "Calypso"

I just had a thought. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Upfront, I'll admit the strong possibility of falling flat on my face. That's the risk in a thread like this. But here's my theory.

If Discovery goes to the 23rd Century Mirror Universe in Season 5, there might be a problem. The Discovery and its crew have been in the 32nd Century too long. They've fully acclimated to that time period. So now they're of that time. If they're of a different time and in a divergent universe, what happened to Georgiou could happen to them.

If I'm right, they can't stay in the 23rd Century Mirror Universe. If they can't get back to their universe right away, they have to time travel to the 32nd Century. The 32nd Century of the Mirror Universe, but still the 32nd Century.

If they can't take Discovery with them, Discovery has to wait for them. Zora changing the ship to its original 23rd Century configuration with reprogrammable matter might help the ship better survive (don't ask me how that makes sense, just go with it)... and if anyone discovers the ship, they don't think they're looking at 32nd Century technology.

But Zora keeps Discovery in a spot that she knows no one will ever find it. As Burnham orders.

So now "Calypso" makes sense... if I'm right. "Calypso" IS compatible with Discovery. It just took place in the Mirror Universe.

If I'm wrong, I'll own it, and you can say, "I told you so!" But if I'm right... I just want to be able to have something I can point to from before.

Well remember, they didn’t know this was the final season. So there’s no guarantee they’ll address Calypso in this season
I haven't forgotten about that.

Olatunde Osunsanmi hinted that Michelle Paradise had something in mind for Season 5 relating to "Calypso". He couldn't out-and-out say it, but you can read between the lines. (link)

Then Michelle Paradise herself said that while they didn't plan on Season 5 being the last one, if Discovery had to end, this was the season to do it. (link)

Putting the two together leads me to believe it will be addressed. So, I'm holding firm. Maybe not the specifics I gave above, in which case it'll be interesting to see what I got right and wrong, but I think it'll be addressed.

In less than two months, we'll know if it's addressed for sure. One way or the other.

Another hint that backs me up. Craft is from Alcor IV, and Alcor IV was at war with the V'Draysh. We're made to sympathize with Craft. Which, narratively-speaking, could make the people of Alcor IV the Good Guys in this war... and the V'Draysh the Bad Guys.

After "The Emperor's New Cloak" (DS9) and Worf's surrender, the Terrans could've reasserted themselves. They tried to model their ideals after the Federation, but those ideals don't last. The Terrans just aren't serious about it, once they're in a position of power again. And the name gets distorted over time as well.

After the recent trailer something like this formulated in my mind. But your take is a bit more elaborate than I was thinking. Yes! Very plausible.

The Federation and the V'Draysh are the same thing. Micheal Chabon said the "V'Draysh" is a linguistic shortening of "Federation". The war was between the Federation/V'Draysh and Alcor IV.

Some of the Emerald Chain folks referred to the Federation as the V'Draysh already at the beginning of Season 3, which implies it's already a term.

Yes, but clearly the V'Draysh are not the same as the Federation in DISCO. What with the Federation of DISCO not being invading a bunch of places.

But they could both be offshoots of the OG Federation.

Federation of DISCO being the Byzantines.

V'Draysh being the Charlemagne Franks.

I dunno why you say that. Craft could just have been a "bad guy." There were tons of hints that he grew up on a colony of humans otherwise cut off from any knowledge of Earth history or culture.

I mean he could be human or he could be an alien that just happens to look human like Book.

I am inclined to believe that the Federation we know and love are the same entity as the V'Draysh. There is no evidence to the contrary. And for all we know, Alcor IV were the aggressors.
Quote from Memory Alpha:
The writer of "Calypso", Michael Chabon, confirmed on Instagram that "V'draysh" is a syncope (a type of linguistic distortion) of the word "Federation". [1]
Since Zareh and his men spoke Pidgin, it is possible that the syncope "V'draysh" is meant to be a Pidgin word.

Possibly but I feel it's a waste to not have multiple factions when an empire collapses like the Federation did.
Maybe, but in this situation we can only take the details we have at face value.

V'Draysh = Federation linguistically
V'Draysh were at war with Alcor IV
The V'Draysh escape pod clearly had data originating from Earth
The lawless elements of society equate the Federation with the V'Draysh

Anything beyond that is fan speculation.

True. I admit that I also just think Calypso is a remnant of how they planned Season 3.

V'Draysh is another way to refer to the Federation, even though we haven't heard it in a while. Both times, it's been outsiders who've referred to the Federation as the V'Draysh.
