I don't suppose there'll be another Chronology?

There are benefits to having a paper reference. Some people are not online all of the time.

The kind of people who would buy any kind of printed Trek work? They would be. :p

But they also complain bitterly every time a paper reference goes out of date.

It is a Catch-22, I suppose.

The same is true for nonupdated webpages and broken links.

Sure but webpages and broken links can be fixed. Out of date hardcopy chronologies and encyclopedias have to be thrown away and reprinted/rebought.

That's assuming, of course, that everyone is painted by the same brush. ;)

Is now a good time to point out that I read ten pages of Ahistory: The Unauthorized History of the Doctor Who Universe (2nd edition) every night before I go to bed?

What, the second Mad Norwegian edition? I've got the old Virgin A History of the Universe and the first Mad Norwegian Ahistory, and haven't read either yet -- and now the second Mad Norwegian edition is out. I'll buy that if they promise not to do another edition until I've actually read one....

I agree that are advantages and disadvantages to both. With with no series on the air, and movies infrequent, now would be a good time to plan to have one out right after the movie opens.

Indeed. The previous Crazy Scandinavian edition was last year's bedtime read, and the Virgin one was before my time.

A new or improved "Chronology" is prohibitive due to the amount of research needed, the colour photographs, its potential size, etc.

Who needs color? B and W would do just as well. :cool:

I agree, There is a lot of Trek not covered in the Encyclopedia. look at what's missing:

  • Star Trek: Voyager -- Seasons 6 & 7

    Star Trek: Enterprise -- All 4 seasons

    Star Trek: Nemesis

    Star Trek IX

    TOS-R

    And possibly TAS if it ever becomes canon as has been discussed

An update is VERY long overdue!

there's also 2 and a bit seasons of DS9...

If five years of VOY is complete, how do you figure 2.5 years of DS9 is missing? Or do you mean the "revised Chronology" only, and not the "revised Encyclopedia w/extra bits at the back"?

I can't reach my copies at the moment.

The updated Chronology was published in 1996. So it covers through the end of Voyager's second season and DS9's fourth.

Black-and-white. Not as many photos. Non-glossy paper stock. That's what I'd do. :)

Now that there are no new, weekly stories, it's the perfect time for the chronology to catch up. Apparently it's also a poor time to sell a caught-up chronology. :p

I wonder if it would be viable to sell it in two volumes:

* Big Bang - 2300
* 2301 - ?

Yeah, but if they had trouble selling a one volume version, I doubt that they would start off with a two volume version.

Might be cheaper to go with the glossy textbook crap used for the recent Encyclopedias than with sturdier non-gloss stock.

i was referring to the 2nd edition encyclopaedia, not the 2.5 edition
