How do you think Dukat and Seska were able to genetically alter their physiology?

I know its science fiction but I do enjoy theorizing how they made this possible. I'm guessing Cardassians and Bajorans have very similar internal organs (heart, kidney, brain size, bones, blood color, etc) which made it possible for the Cardassians to genetically alter their appearance. Damar must have known someone from the Obsidian Order to do the job for Dukat.

It seems like a complicated procedure especially since they have to find a way to shrink their foreheads without causing massive brain hemorrhage. I always assumed Seska was an agent from the Obsidian Order (the hologram trap sealed the deal for me). The physician who performed the procedure had to find a way to manipulate her cells to read as "Bajoran" which probably explains why Seska was able to get away spending two years with the Maqui. Her life signs undoubtedly read "Bajoran" however there's no way her physician was able to change all of her cells. They had to leave some Cardassian genetic blocks so she can revert back to her physiology once her mission is complete. Seskas plan to infiltrate the Maquis obviously backfired leaving her stranded in the delta quadrant probably extremely anxious some of the Maquis will find out her true identity and possibly kill her on board. She probably had to take some medication to maintain her Bajoran physiology and that was no longer possible.

Dukat had the procedure done by someone Damar knew and it was completed pretty quickly. Unsure if Dukat probably went through the same genetic procedure as Seska though. My heart goes out to Chakotay and Kai Winn. Looks (and reproductive organs) can be deceiving. I guess you never really know someone even when you're in bed with them only to find out the person you loved was a violent alien with a nasty reputation.

Yes, probably just a thick plate of bone that gives great protection against forehead blows but can be thinned without causing brain damage.

Changing someone's looks from Cardassian to Bajoran and back is pretty routine for the Obsidian Order. Besides Dukat, they also did it in "Second Skin".

It's not like a Talaxian undergoing surgery to look like a Ferengi....

I don't think it was a big deal for them.

TBH Seska always looked to me like she wasn't able to revert fully. I mean even after changing back she still looks more like a Cardassian/Human hybrid rather than a full Cardassian.
I don't think they ever explained that on the show? So I guess it's possible that either her specific kind of Bajoran disguise was not fully revertible, or she didn't have access to the technology to change her back completely.

In Manuevers, she explains that she's still in the process of restoring her Cardassian physiology since the Kazon technology is primitive. She got killed before she was able to completely restore her physiology.

It's possible Seska also comes from the same group of Cardassians as the ones in The Wounded. They had fair - tan skin tones with brown hair

That's not just a skeleton. It clearly still has skin and hair on it. All the soft tissue of the face is still intact apart from the eyeballs.

I don't know. Peculiarity of the stasis tube? To also have the uniform so broken down in only a year makes me think something went hinky in the machinery.

trek has always handled dna poorly
editing an adult's dna would not immediately cause physical changes, including already grown hair to change color

We should also remember that with the Neelix example, it was just a cosmetic change, since he was going down to a primitive world and the two Ferengi likely weren't thinking the Federation would use such a tactic.

The Doctor did the same for Chakotay in "FACES".

Also, all the resources Dukat and Seska had when they got the altering done were likely geared to going much deeper than a cosmetic change.

I'd hate to lose this from Star Trek.

I'm a big fan of how you can press a hypospray of pigeon DNA against someone's neck and five seconds later they're covered in feathers and have grown wings.
