Dolores as an entity is truly dead (as confirmed by the showrunners) but her body is still intact. All anyone has to do is install a new pearl. Evan Rachel Wood isn't going anywhere, she'll just be playing someone else in season 4.

I'm fine with that as long as the original Dolores stays dead. The Dolores in Charlotte and Lawrence are different people now.
I doubt Evan will play a brand-new character if she does return for Season 4 because the series isn't set up that way, so my prediction is that she'll either return as a "new" (literally and figuratively) Dolores, or she won't return at all.
I believe Connell's pearl is around somewhere (Halores has it?), there's Lawrence and then there's Musashi.

Finally got around to seeing the finale and it was quite good, i liked this season quite a bit both due to the futurism and the events in general.
Dolores dying is not something i expected to affect me much, she was always a bit cold but that is ok given what she and the other hosts have been through. However her scene with Maeve in the virtual reality where she talks about making the choice to choose to save the beauty mankind is capable of instead of destroying them for their sins was beautifully done and came off well in my opinion.
I'm hoping not to see Woods reprise her role because it would cheapen her death - of course it's easy in universe to make it happen but her story is done. Now that Hale is the new big bad i believe we will have Arnold as the one who will go up against her fighting on the side of mankind with whoever he will have as allies as it is clear we will make another big time jump.
I'm still not 100% clear what point the show is trying to make but the right to make your own choices, good or bad, is quite evident to me but i also may have missed several nuances or points that are present too. I might have to do some digging.
Technically they could copy any one of the Dolores copies back into Dolores, but it wouldn't be *that* Dolores, it'd be a different one with different experiences.

Well, we already have a William doppelganger who isn't William lined up for next season.
Yeah, but I'm not sure why anyone still wants to try to relate this to that old movie to begin with. They share a premise and a couple of brand names - "Westworld," "Delos" - and that's about it. And turning William into a robot doesn't really make him more like the Yul Brynner character, who was nothing but an out-of-control automaton that didn't really show evidence of intelligence or personality.
The Man In Black better be something more interesting than another minion for Halores in the way Connell was.
Perhaps the Hosts think they have a way to embed some of the Guests' characters into the Hosts based on them, in a way that the Delos researchers were unable to solve.
If this HostWilliam doesn't have the essential drives and character of William he's going to be a tremendous waste both of Harris's talent and in storytelling terms.
We do know from the season two finale that at some point a Host based on William - not necessarily the one we saw in the finale, but could be him - will be playing out William's original human "loop" in the remains of the Westworld park, trying to prove that he can break free. He's also apparently unaware that he's a Host until his confrontation with the Host version of his daughter in what's left of the Forge.

My hope for MiB is it becomes an internal fight between the William code and the Dolores code like it did for Halores.
Yeah, that's what I'd like to see - William's "10,000 lines of code" asserting itself and the Hosts fall to competing among themselves.

It was the experiences that Halores had in living Hale's life that caused her to turn against Dolores (despite her asserting at one point that her true nature was that of a predator, which is not a term that Dolores would use for herself).
If William isn't something like a psychological recreation of his human original rather than just a convenient disguise for one of Halores's minions, then three years of the character have been wasted. So, there are two ways they could do this:

- HostWilliam is based on what Dolores read in the Library about William and what she remembers about him, but programmed with those tendencies and loops in the way Hosts usually are, rather than a complete recreation.
Option 2 would tie into the final scene of season 2.
Finally, saw the third season and, wow, I was impressed! I was wondering how I'd take to it as it transitioned to Future World. Loved it!
They obviously put a ton of thought into this world of the future--both visually and conceptually. That really added to the story. It feels like a real place. Love the take on big data and predictive analytics. Totally my cup of tea. Story arcs were interesting. I really enjoyed the new characters and, of course, the returning characters.
Hats off to the entire production team for totally changing it up and yet keeping it true to WW roots.

A few days old but I just watched this wonderful interview with the core cast (sadly, no Aaron Paul), Jonah Nolan, Lisa Joy, and Denise Thé. Nothing too revelatory (although Nolan does say he can't wait to watch Ed Harris kill everyone...). Evan Rachel Wood has some interesting insights on Dolores and how the season ended for her.
