Haven: Season 5 Discussion (Spoilers)

I wonder what the woods/Dave's visions have to do with anything?

I was thinking that was a wild goose chase. That someone, perhaps William, is helping from the other side by luring them to a safe haven outside the dome of fog.

Yeah, Duke was a dope for trusting Mara. But she appears to be gone for good, and apparently was motivated by daddy issues-- I'm guessing that's who William Shatner will be playing. And we still don't know why she was so interested in Duke's mom.

The cloud hanging over Haven reminded me of The Mist. I wonder if this will be another tie-in with the King-o-verse. Perhaps Mara et al come from the same world that was breached by the Arrowhead Project.

No idea how Dave's visions tie in to it all. I'm really curious about the deer who morphed into a woman.

Did they say that he was dead? I thought Charlotte said that they could look for him together or something like that.

Anyone watching the final stretch run of this show? Haven is so weird, it's awful and entertaining and the same time.

And I didn't think the writing could be worse, but that trial episode had to have by far the most poorly-written character on the show to date. "Nathan must die just because!" Naturally it turns out the guy is the one with the trouble that's killing everyone.

I'm still watching. I'll be there till the end. I enjoy the weirdness. And the characters.

But, yeah, that trial episode was a flop. It misfired on many different levels.

I love this series but the last season was disappointing to me- the Audrey/Mara thing went on for far too long.
Duke's fountain of troubles spreading chaos could be fun, I hope they have the budget to really do it right.

And so Croatoan is....

William Shatner!

Let's see how he's able to pull off interdimensional evil.

I bet he "Shatners the Hell out of it!"

:techman:

Well tonight is the end of the series with the final two episodes. And apparently wrestling is too big to move around on SyFy, so Haven is airing its regular time meaning the final episode will air at 11 p.m.

What a long strange trip it's been. Can hardly believe it will all finally be over soon. Hope it's worth it...

That was a pretty satisfying ending. Tears welled up a couple of times (Duke's death, the barn disappearing).

The scene with Jason Priestly was funny.

Sure, the very end was kind of predictable, but still glad to see it. Nathan deserved a happy ending.

Overall, I am pleased with it.

The logic on this show was still really stupid until the end -- Croatoan is defeated simply because he changes his mind, in the end Vince has no issues with the man who killed his adopted brother, why would Audrey want to return to Haven without her memories or identity and where the hell did James come from?, that's still not Dwight's actual daughter -- but the characters and how the actors play off each other is still fun.

Did they ever explain how Jason Priestley is the only one who doesn't lose his memories of Haven when he leaves? Or was the memory loss a result of the shroud? Which still wouldn't make sense because paranormal activity investigator guy left before the Shroud too and his memory was wiped.

^^ I don't remember anyone leaving besides Duke and Nathan. Everybody else got turned back by the fog.

Well, that was a weird one. Lots of unexpected things happened, that's for sure. I didn't expect Duke to die-- or come back as a ghost. I didn't expect Dwight's daughter to be real. I didn't expect Croatoan to have a change of heart. And I didn't expect Audrey to have to go away forever-- or come back as yet another new identity. And where did the baby come from?

I was hoping that they would find Dave's essence hiding somewhere, maybe in Croatoan's mind, so he could be reunited with Vince in the barn. That didn't happen. I was hoping that Duke would be saved-- and, well, he was, in the sense that he got himself straightened out. But then he had to die in the bargain. And when Dwight's daughter turned out to be real, I thought Duke might be saved the same way, but no dice.

So now Haven is free of the Troubles, Nathan has a new incarnation of Audrey (with a very different personality), and Vince and Croatoan are spending eternity in the barn together.

Not the most satisfying ending, but surprising, and it could have been worse.

Croatoan was like Darth Vader. He did one really good thing at the end and everyone forgave him.

I think James was for Audrey/Paige to get another chance with him, just like she got another chance with Nathan. This life is a total do-over. I guess...the barn is the father??

Haven ran on its own scattershot logic, which at times was not even internally consistent. And yet it was a fun show to watch. I just sort of let it wash over me without thinking about it too much. Dave and Duke died noble deaths, so I can accept that (although why is Duke a ghost and Dave is not?).

Because they had to pay Eric Balfour for the final episode regardless of whether he was in it or not?

He was a regular and they probably wanted to involve him in the final episode somehow... unlike, say, The West Wing with Toby.

I kept thinking that Nathan's dad would return at some point. Disappointed about that.

And the Captain and Tenille just seemed out of place. Oh well...

Well, Nathan's dad did return in that flashback episode, which pretty much resolved the conflicts between the two of them.
