Han Solo's Age

Did the Disney-owned Lucasfilm change Han Solo's age? Why? The Wookiepedia website used to state that he was born 29BBY. Now, the website states that he was born 34BBY. Why did Lucasfilm/Disney think it was necessary to change his age? Make him five years older?

His age has never been clearly defined. Not sure how it affects the story one way or the other. He was always supposed to be older than Luke.

The only impact would be that Solo could earlier than expected in the timeline. Otherwise it doesn't do much.

Solo's events take place 10 years before ANH.

Also, Wookieepedia lists Han as having been born during the events of The Phantom Menace, which means he's 13 years older than Luke and Leia, who were born 19 years before ANH.

How does it effect the story of the film(s) and more importantly, why does it matter at all?

Is this a thing that really matters how exactly?

ETA: Now that I think about it, didn't Lucas think about putting a 13 year old Han in RotS for about five minutes there? This seems less like a retcon and more about ignoring the old EU's assumptions in favour of Lucas's ideas.

Think about? It was in a draft. An excerpt is below with concept art.

Sure, "think about" as in explore the idea but not actually casting someone and filming the scenes. ;)

Also, I stand corrected as that clearly shows Lucas thought Han would be about 10, not 13 thus the holy write has been violated and this retcon will forever taint the character of Han Solo!

I'm glad they didn't try to shoehorn a young Han into the PT, which is incestuous enough as it is. We've got the immaculate conception, Anakin building Threepio, Boba Fett as a clone grown from the same template as the clone army, Chewbacca is buddies with Yoda and in fact helps him escape, the fact that either Jedi dress like Tatooine moisture farmers or Obi-wan wasn't all that concerned about being in hiding all those yeas, and so on.

The idea that Boba was a left over clone is one that dates back right to his initial conception. Though at the same time he wasn't a special, custom made son for the template. Just a veteran supercommando that became a mercenary.
Also, the idea that Jedi wear (stylistically, if not materially) simple peasant robes of a style common throughout the galaxy is one that makes perfect sense to me given their monastic origins and really helps to underline how far they've strayed from their roots where they still wear the trappings of humility, but are anything but humble. Also I'm pretty sure Kenobi's costume was designed before Owen & Luke's and was based directly on Samurai era robes, so if anything it's the other way around.

But yeah, Anakin building Threepio and Chewbacca personally knowing Yoda was really pushing it. Plus, the idea that Han once spent time (even it it was a few days) among Jedi and yet retained a sense of skepticism about the force decades later just doesn't feel right.

Of course, it's not a historical documentary, it's pulpy space fantasy adventure where this kind of thing is par for the course, so it honestly doesn't bother me all that much.

This will NOT stand!!!!

;)

Wow, threads about Lando’s sexuality and Han’s age. What are we going to get next? A thread about Chewie’s bandolier and how it’s different?

Well his skepticism was in the fact the force connects everything and controls his destiny, not in the Jedi's abilities.
