Green Lantern on HBOMax

Mark Strong's Sinestro can never be beat, he was fucking perfect.
Now as for this show, my prediction is the show will have insane production values, great cast, compelling story, but ultimately it'll flop harder than The Acolyte.
Ain't nobody got time for earthstuck Lanterns.

"We have these amazing rings they are the most powerful weapons in the Universe and are limited by our willpower and a TV budget."

"What does that mean?"

"That we will mainly use them as a flashlight in a murder mystery."

I appreciate that it doesn't seem like it will be end-of-the-world uber villain non-sense. Like anything else, we won't know how it plays until the episodes start airing.

I'm just hoping if this goes on for more than the first season, we eventually start to get some space based stories. My main experience with GL is the animated series and movies, but one of the things I've liked about them is all of the crazy aliens, so I'm just hoping we're eventually get at least of that in this series.

This is a random guess - the victim is Appa Ali Apsa which is why an earth based murder needs Green Lanterns.

Still disappointed this isn't gong to be a big sci-fi epic with ton of crazy aliens, but this does sound like it could be good for what it will be. At least it sounds like they aren't totally ignoring the aliens and sci-fi stuff, it just won't be the focus.

How much weed do you have to smoke to be like "what if True Detective season 5 was about John Stewart and Hal Jordan solving murders in Nebraska"

Same. Like a lot of people, I loved season 1 of True Detective and like a lot of people I was mildly let down that the supernatural elements that were hinted at were just for effect and the show was set firmly in the real world. So I see this show as being like that first season of True Detective except with fantastical elements being part of the show. Probably be creepy as hell with some kind of freaky alien shit happening too and I'd be okay with that. It's always cool to see a new take on familiar concepts. Think Swamp Thing right before Alan Moore came along and turned the book into straight up horror that rivaled what I had read of King up to that point.

Some internet threads from back when the season was in progress are amusing in that way. People really thought the end boss was gonna be Hastur or some shit.

I did. I thought it was headed in a Twin Peaks-esque direction. The second season did bring in some of that, but only after the story went to shit--and it was so corny I actually laughed. Season 2 started off with a lot of potential and then quickly became a mess. Season 3 was actually my favorite of the series, but I haven't seen the most recent one yet.

If any season went in that direction I would say it was season 4, which relentlessly hinted at a supernatural nemesis ( while featuring apparent clairvoyance on the part of its characters ) before ultimately providing a mundane conclusion.
Not sure what you mean about season 2, which was firmly rooted in the real world, almost to a fault. It did have a few mild allusions to the occult here and there, such as doing deals by moonlight, but they didn't seem to go beyond personal affectations on the part of certain characters.

I think I'm referring to one of the final scenes. Maybe I'm misremembering but wasn't there a ghost?

I generally expected a sort of Lovecraftian ending where Russ(?) has that vision, and sees something ancient's and beyond our comprehension etc, but that’s it. Usually a Lovecraft protagonist goes crazy, or is killed or kills himself. Didn’t expect any of that, just that the vision was real. Again, it was mild disappointment, still love that first season.
