Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase in "Foul Play"

What a great movie this was. I saw it for the first time and really enjoyed it. It had just the right amount of suspense and comedy. Plus it was a real treat to see the late great Dudley Moore's appearances in this movie as a guy who is constantly in the wrong place at the wrong time.

:guffaw:

I remember seeing this many, MANY years ago. Back when I was a kid, and we had a Showtime (back when pay cable entailed having a giant black box with a red button on top of your TV), this movie seemed to be on ALL the time. I think I was still in grade school at the time.

I also watched it many times on tv as a kid and loved it. Almost as good is Seems Like Old Times. And those movies always remind me of another great '70s callback to the screwball comedies of the '30s and '40s, What's Up Doc?. All great fun to watch.

A terrific movie. Comedy is consistently underrated. Every year as grow older they conclude they don't make movies like they used to. It's true but movies this one shows that doesn't mean they don't make great movies any more.

But OP didn't mention Billy Barty.:wtf:

Burgess Meredith is such a delight in this movie. The battle he has here with one of the film's villains has to be one of the most hysterical fight scenes in cinema history. It just gets so out of control.

Foul Play is a bit overrated, I think. Sure, there's some good chemistry between Chevy and Goldie, and cute turns by Dudley Moore as a would-be swinger and Billy Barty as an overbearing Bible salesman. But the whole thing -- well, I've just never found it that hilarious. Certainly not in the same league as What's Up, Doc? Now, THAT picture is funny!

Hush, you!

Foul Play is a fun movie, but for the Goldie/Chevy pairings I prefer Seems Like Old Times.

The only movie other than "Fletch" that Chevy Chase is worth watching in. Well, maybe "Vacation", he is somewhat funny in that.

I like Foul Play, Caddyshack, Seems Like Old Times, Vacation and Fletch; not a bad early stretch for a film career and pretty much justifying the decision to leave SNL after one season. But Modern Problems, oh wow what a PoS.

Oh, man. I totally forgot about "Mordern Problems". Showtime would air that movie very often in the mid-late 90's. It's been a long time since I saw it. Isn't Nell Carter in that too?

This is how old I am.. I saw BOTH "Modern Problems" and "Foul Play" in the theaters... For the record, I also saw "Caddy Shack" in the theater, but I was very young.. My dad was supposed to take me to see whatever Disney movie was out at the time, but instead said "Don't tell mom!!" and we saw "Caddy Shack"... At 10 years old, it was my first experience with boob flashes in a movie.. :alienblush:

"I was getting my feet scraped."

"What Indian? OUR Indians?!"

Yeah, 'Seems Like Old Times' had good lines. I like them both. Bought them on cheap DVDs.

A recently aired episode of Biography said that Chase chose this movie over being in Animal House.

Here is a clip of him from the 1974 comedy The Groove Tube.

My dad said that they really ran a train into a station for that scene, since they were demolishing the station anyway.
