This looks just insane and ridiculous, and not necessarily in a good way. It could end up so bad's it's good, but that's probably about it. It's disappointing too, because I was really looking forward to this. I loved the idea of a big fantasy movie based around Egyptian mythology, but this is not what I had in mind.

Looks like an expensive bomb... Gerard Butler was great in 300.... but for Gods of EGYPT, the only black member isn't even in the trailer. Boooo!

This'll bomb like Exodus

Someone really wanted to make another Clash of the Titans movie I guess.

Normally I tend towards the benefit of the doubt when it comes to racial casting in these sort of films, but having a cast this white for a story set in ancient Egypt and populated with (one can assume) Egyptian characters is well beyond anything that can be reasonably defended.

I like Alex Proyas and this could be fun for the spectacle together with a few beer (...or perhaps shots). But I don't know...

I only heard of this for the first time last night when I saw a trailer online. I thought "Holy mackerel, that looks ridiculous!"

There is no way the producers can defend this crap, but it goes on and on. Films of this kind will cast anyone, other than those who would be historically accurate, all for the sake of their target audience, who seem to enjoy the lies and myths about Egypt as much as the entertainment business.

He turned down the remake of "Point Break" for this too.

It was either that or this. He was stuck between a rock and hard place

The posters are seriously bland.

At least they're facing front ;)

I can't believe how bad some of these effects look. That said, it does look kind of fun. Alex Proyas usually makes movies that are at least entertaining, even if they're pretty crazy and don't totally work.

The whitewashed cast is pretty annoying, though.

Boy, I didn't know Ancient Egypt was so white.
You learn all sorts of things from Hollywood. Thanks Hollywood!

Watch "SHE" some time. It's a Hammer film about an immortal Egyptian queen waiting for her dead lover to be reincarnated. Ursula Andress plays the queen. The physical embodiment of her man is John Richardson. Both of them stunning blue-eyed blonds.

Well, that film is based on one of the best selling books of all time and an arguable classic of adventure/fantasy literature coming out of the colonial era. Changing that aspect would have been an unimaginable (at the time) and kind of self-defeating (now) alteration of the source material.

Egyptian mythology was always one of my favorite topics in school, but this just looks stupid.

It still might be a good movie, the plot IMO sounds pretty interesting. Given the director it's probably a pretty dark movie. However it's Butler's other movie that probably should be getting more press, with the events in Paris I'd thought that London Has Fallen would've been pulled back to a later date.

This looks terrible. It's being released when they know they're not going to make any money. It may as well be another Immortals.

There's only one person who can play Set, or should I say Sutekh, and that's Gabriel Woolf. It takes a certain stage presence to exude earth shattering menace while remaining seated during the majority of the performance and wearing a mask that even hides the eyes. ;)

Sincerely,

Bill

Saw the trailer recently and i think i'll pass.

Yet another fantasy movies assembled by Hollywood with a plan developed by their marketing guys and familiar ingredients.

Big effects, monsters, some popular actors, disregard for the actual mythology or culture and a pretty bland story.

I'll catch it later maybe but i'm not shelling out money for this unless reviews explode and prove us all wrong (though i seriously doubt it ).

I couldn't make it through the trailer. It devolved into a series of video game cutscene fights.

Regarding the casting controversy of this...yes, it is too white. And I always support the casting of culturally-correct actors for their parts (*ahem* Star Trek Into Darkness, shame on you). But it's not so cut and dry, because in ancient times, as it is now, Egypt was a place of many colors. It was not simply "mostly black people." That was Nubia (Upper Egypt, today Sudan). Egypt as a whole was an entire melting pot of brown hues.
