Genesis Wave: Any good?

Hi,

I'm still relatively new to the Novelverse (half way through Vanguard at the moment, which is brilliant). My first Trek novel was DTI: Watching the Clock, which I noted referenced the Genesis Wave novels.

A (possibly misplaced) sense of completeness makes me therefore want to read them, but I'd be interested to know if they are worthwhile. Opinions?

Cheers,

LJ.

Haven't ever revisited them, but as I recall, the first book was pretty good and then they went downhill. Book two was OK, but book three and 'Genesis Force' were not very good at all.

Sorry, I really can't say because I never made it that far. I read the first one years ago when I bought I book club omnibus edition that had the first two in it. It seems like it was OK. I think I started the second but never made it that far into it. Honestly, it was years before I even knew a third had been published.

I've only read the first two books. They were good. But I refrained from reading book three and Genesis Force. You can easily stop after book 2.

Some of the German fans are crying out for a translation of these books. It's not necessary. They already translated the Double Helix novels, mostly because of the New Frontier novel (Double or Nothing). IMO it wasn't worthwhile. And Genesis Wave isn't worthwhile to be translated into German. As I said, you may read book 1 and 2. Then you can decide if you want to go on or not.

Agree with the general consensus, the first 2 are not bad and it trails off a bit afterwards...

I think the first duology is the only part that's been overtly referenced elsewhere in the novelverse. IIRC, Book Three and the novelverse diverge somewhat; Book Three gives Nurse Ogawa a son while Titan gives her a daughter, and her husband is alive in one but dead in the other. Or something like that.

I thought that Noah Powell is Alyssa's son aboard Titan and she is widowed. And she had a daughter instead of a son in one of the Genesis Wave novels I haven't read.

You should know better as you wrote some Titan novels.

Noah is well established now. I think I have read something about Ogawa having a daughter with the name Suzie in GW book 3 or Genesis Force or so.......

^No, you're right, I got them backward. It is Noah in the TTN books. You've probably read them more recently than I have.

Not really. Fallen God in German was the last Titan book I've read. But I have read the first two Genesis Waves books recently (last year, I'm not sure, ST novels..... keeping track of them is a full-time job). One reason for me to refrain from continuing with GW book 3 was the fact that I prefer Alyssa's life to be like in the Titan novels.

For the OP: I liked the first two GW books because they featured Carol Marcus and Maltz.

I liked the first book well enough. Book 2 not so much. Book 3 feels tacked on and very disconnected. Genesis Force actually isn't bad, if it also isn't very good and also has almost nothing to do with anything.

I liked the first Genesis wave books with Carol Marcus and Maltz . Book 3 I really didn't care for the story like others have said the story is quite disjointed and confusing.
