Firebird's Sketch of the Week Series

As I sit and work on getting the back half of EVA-Trek season 2 into second draft scripts this weekend, here are this week's illustrations!

The way you've coloured the windows on the underside of the saucer (and, to a lesser extent, the neck) is really effective. It looks like you've swiped the yellow marker over the white window gaps to give a soft sort of spill light on the hull between them (except on the right where it appears that the windows were done individually - or at least two at a time)? I'll have to try and remember that technique if I ever get around to drawing a starship!

That was a technique I just stumbled on last night as I was coloring the piece. Instead of making the windows a simple and boring white, I wanted to add a little soupcon of color, so drawing the swath of yellow first, then drawing the window frames afterwards seemed the way to go without having to spend a shitload of time blocking out and coloring each window.

EVA-Trek Production Update: Production has been steamrolling ahead since last week in the gear-up to the March premiere for season two. As of now:

"On-set" Rewrites (color pages): Episode 201 and 202

"Locked" Final Draft: Episode 203

Second Draft: Episodes 204-216

In all, these sixteen scripts account for 157,126 words, and that was all written in the span of just three months! The 26 episodes of season one took me 2.5 years to complete for comparison. I've always dreamed of being this quick of a writer, and what's better is I'm improving with every new script and story I write. I can only hope folks enjoy the season half as much as I have putting it together!

Moopsy!

Sorry EVA Trek cast, you look happy and all, but... Moopsy! Awww.. Look at it's little face. It's little legs. :adore:

I mentioned our god-daughters are super-talented artists. One of them picked up a part-time job for the local museum to create replicas of Native American bead & leather artwork so the real artifacts can be return the the rightful owners in the tribes.

Very, very cool and a noble purpose!

EVA-Trek Production Update: Had another bit of a productive burst this week, so it got things moving along even quicker than I expected.

2nd round of "on-set" rewrites (pink pages): Episode 201-203
1st round of "on-set" rewrites (blue pages): Episode 204-208

I'm aiming to have episodes 209 and 210 into locked final draft status today, and finishing 211 through 216 over the week!

Apart from that, I had an idea to put together a little short "mini-sode" that helps to bridge season 1 and 2 to give some updates on the cast, as well as pointing towards some stories I'll touch on... beginning March 14th!

EVA-Trek Season 2, Episode 0 - "Letters":

Luther Sloan of Section 31 reviews a confidential surveillance file on the crew of the USS Nerv.

EVA-Trek Production Update: This weekend officially locked down the remainder of season 2's scripts! As of now, the entire season is in the "production revision" stage.

2nd "on-set" rewrites (pink pages): Episode 201-207
1st "on-set" rewrites (blue pages): Episode 208-216

Just wild to think that I've got season 2 basically buttoned-up prior to the premiere. Apart from the pink revisions to the back half of the season, the only significant work that needs to be done is writing my release notes and annotations for each episode, which will be presented in weekly segments of The Ready Room. That's right, each episode of EVA-Trek now comes with added Wil Wheaton-y goodness!

Apologies for just a single illustration this week, but I was dealing with fun computer issues the last couple days because Windows decided to force the dreaded 24H2 feature update on me which failed multiple times and is still fucking with my CPU. As such, it left little time or energy for me to do creative things.

That being said, I hope to make up for it slightly. Read further in this week's EVA-Trek update...

EVA-Trek Production Update: Before my computer decided to be an asshole this weekend, I was able to progress on the 2nd round of production rewrites. The pink revision pages are now done up through episode 212.

Now, here is a little preview from the season 2 premiere episode, "Little Changes!"

EVA-Trek Production Update: Pink on-set revision pages have been completed through the end of the season! This week, I'll start writing the release notes for each episode, as well as the behind the scenes featurettes for The Ready Room!

Episode 201 premieres in just 12 days!

Starfleet starship trappings go well on the Evangelion-class MU. I'm guessing there'll be a coloured version down the line sometime?

P.S. Fabulous hair on Madoka Ayukawa! :adore:
