Ever given up on a game for technical or usability reasons?

A bug prevented me from completing FarCry for PC although I eventually came back to it.

I refrained from purchasing Star Trek: Legacy because of the widely reported usability issues... quite unfortunate as I was looking forward to that game.

Xbox 360 version of MLB 2K6. Couldn't complete a whole game in franchise mode without a system lockup. Could be first inning, could be the third out of the ninth inning.

Actually, come to think of it, I've abandoned the 2K Sports baseball games entirely in favor of the PS3's MLB 09.

Oh how I wish we still had High Heat Baseball!

Afro samurai as you have to deflect bullets at one of the bosses very near end of the game its so hit and miss (no pun intended) if you deflect it correctly. Also some horrible level design as well

I had an X-Men game for Game Gear. You played each level as a different character and rescued one at the end of the level. Well, my game was effed up and I got the wrong character at the end of a level every time, so I couldn't continue with the game.

Mass Effect because I got sick of trying to figure out how to advance in the game. I got bored flying back and forth between planets and the Citadel and then trying to hunt someone down to find out what I needed to do.

I also decided to avoid that game because of all the reports of horrible bugs and really bad control schemes.

Oh, I just remembered an unusual example. I have one of the original grey Playstation units. And for some reason whenever I tried to play Final Fantasy Tactics it would reach a certain battle and just freeze up. I even tried a second copy of the game with the same results.

I never realized you could crash a game console.

Did you try looking in your Journal perhaps? Also, if you're zoomed out to the maximum level in the Galactic map, the location for planets that you need for the main story are indicated.

Whatever the last single player Ultima was.... IX maybe. Midway through the game some floating platform thing got stuck in the wrong state and I couldn't get to where I needed to go. That game had a whole mountain of issues.

Yeah, I don't remember ever really getting lost as to what to do in that game. There was a lot of hand holding.

For me, it'd would have to be a technical issue with one of the Splinter Cell games (or the demo at least)

On the demo, you wouldn't get any sound unless the game was installed on the C:\ drive. At the time, I didn't have the space to put it there. Now I have, I might give it another try.

Farcry 1 just seemed to take an age to load. (I'd put the disk in and it could take up to ten minutes to get to the menu screen. - Once in, the game ran fine)

Some of the older games I had tended to annoy me (Because of the constant need for boot disks an XMS v EMS memory etc) but I can't think of any others I've given up for technical or usability problems.

I just used to consider autoexec.bat and config.sys to be their own minigame!

Frequently. Anything with annoying DRM goes straight to the return box or trash bin. I also had a bug with Far Cry that prevented me from finishing it, but I later returned to it.

Empire: Total War for the game-breaking naval bug. I haven't played it for months and unless I read the latest patch fixes the naval bug without introducing a new game-breaker, I may never reinstall that piece of shit. I can't believe it, but Shogun: Total War is still the most enjoyable of the series, followed by modded RTW, with MTW2 (modded up the ass) coming in a close third. The games may be getting prettier, but they sure as hell aren't getting more fun.

Does the original Resident Evil and its crappy even for the time tank control schemes count? If so, that's my entry for this thread. I can't believe people actually defend that shit.

I've heard that the PC port for Saints Row 2 is basically unplayable. Which sucks, because I wanted to buy it.

Years ago I was on the last level of Klax when my mother came in the room, tripped on the power cord, and sent it flying across the room. Does that count?

Yeah I had the same problem when I played the Gamecube remake. I couldn't make it past the first save point the controls were so awful.

I'm glad they changed things up for Resident Evil 4 since it's one of my favorite games of all time.

I bought Halo for pc and like it. Then I bought Halo 2 for XB and hated it. :guffaw: Reason : I felt like I was attempting to control air, moving and aiming proved an impossibility for me. I tried the available 2 default control settings to no avail. I was not comfortable with both.

The controls were awful for all of the Resi games up until 4, but you just get used to them after a while.

My own pick is Lionheart. The game just would not work for me, it took three attempts to get it to install, then it crashed every three minutes. The weird thing is no else i know had a problem with it. In the end i just accepted that the game didnt want to be played and went back to Fallout 2.
