Eddington's Death

Today I watched the episode where Sisko took Eddington from prison to prevent the implementation of weapons that never existed. The found some Maquis survivors, Eddington's wife among other. The great majority was killed by the Jem'Hadar.
Eddington's fate was - despite of all he did before and the grudge he bore against Sisko - a bit disappointing for me. He went down fighting, but simply being shot by Jem'Hadar was odd nonetheless. It's just a feeling. On the one hand it was that was Eddington wanted from the beginning of that episode - to die in the line of fire. On the other hand I found the final Eddington episode disappointing. More disappointing than Seska's death in Voyager.

Eddington was such an insufferable, warmongering jackass that I really didn't care HOW he died. Only THAT he died.

You describe the feelings I had for Seska almost the whole time she reappeared after her treachery. But when she was killed off I felt sorry for her.....For Zero-Point-Six-Eight seconds....:D

I suppose you can say that Eddington's final scene didn't quite live up to the title of the episode "Blaze of Glory."

It was peculiar that at the very end, Sisko wound up heaping a bit of praise on Eddington, someone that Sisko despised. He was able to acknowledge some noble qualities about Eddington, but only after Eddington was no more. In a way, Eddington was a tragic figure.

It's not the strongest episode but I thought it was a fitting way for him to die. Saving the people he led into the fire, leading Sisko to think maybe he failed them too. The guy who saw himself as a storybook hero got a chance to be one.

Eddingyon would have viewed his death as heroic. He saved some people, one of who was his wife.
I would have preferred to have seen Miles toss him out an airlock the first time he sabotaged the Defiante.

I liked that episode and death quite alot. Eddington didn't really become all interesting until he became a traitor. Those 3 episodes starting with "For the Cause" I think make a nice little Eddington Trilogy. I liked the banter between him in Sisko in the final episode and him laying down the Cal Hudson guilt moment and the tomato story. Him dying while going out in fight seem like a nice way. I suppose the moment could have been done better but then Trek, especially Berman era Trek was often lacking when it comes to action scenes that don't involve spaceships shooting at each other. There are exceptions of course and some of the stuff on "TOS" is fun in a goofy kind of way and I will say this is one thing "Discovery" has done better than all the other Trek shows. Still it seemed better than some of the other Berman era gun battles.

I always liked Eddington from his tense but productive dynamic with Odo, to his glory seeking traitorous acts. It helps I'm sympathetic to the Maquis and Eddington's leadership in particular. I was rooting for him most of the time.

His death was somewhat underwhelming but I think Jadzia had it right, he was the most loyal man after all-no man was as devoted or as convicted as Michael Eddington.

I'm glad they kept Eddington in the Mirror novelverse alive, making him an important character with so many main Mirror characters being killed off.
As to the prime Eddington: he got what he wanted. And he didn't have to languish in a prison.

I liked Eddington. He was a man of honor who fought for what he believed in.
It's sad that he was killed off.

Unfortunately, I will probably not watch thgis episode due to Paramount selling substandard DVD:s to Europe, this stealing the money from the European fans which I've described in another thread.

My planned DS9 relaunch will take place by reading the scripts of the episodes.

I liked Eddington because when he arrived, he brought some friction and Odo’s reaction to him was like a petulant child “you will have my resignation on your desk...”

His arc was very well written, however I did think his death was a bit empty.
