Earth as Naked Paradise

Nudity is a concept that a free society would not universally embrace... or else it wouldn't be a free society. Nudity in certain social settings is already a part of human culture, and I could see that expanding to more settings and cultures in some "utopian" future.

What's the phrase? Some are empowered by nudity, others by modesty. That won't likely change in 300 years.

Yes. I honestly would hope that there would be more exploration of fashion and style even with that increased acceptance of nudity.

but why did civilian clothes in the 24th century look like a clearance sale at a discount fabric store

"Singer showing machine.. engage"

Civilian clothes in the 24th century were dreadful.

Kor
I never understood why the Star Trek costume designers maintained this predilection that everyone in the 24th century will want to wear crazily-colored tunics or crazily-colored jumpsuits.

I actually felt like the Yorktown scene in Star Trek Beyond did a much better job with spitballing what future fashion might be like.

Clothing also exists because others exists and not always for the reasons we immediately fathom, that's the fun part. And I'm not referring to ambient temperatures or to tailor a new outfit design in hopes everybody will want to look the same, especially in the name of rebelling. Those baseball caps worn backwards never get old, do they? :D

"Society" by its very definition means there are compromises, which means it is impossible for it to be "free" in any form. And most people stop liking the concept of "anarchy" after a certain and obvious point.

Some religions practice nudity. What's fascinating is that some of the religions claimed to have been originated in areas that would be quite cold for many parts of the year and people would get sick or die. Maybe reinvented, like in nudist colonies that happen to be situated in places far away from borderline cold regions. Then again, indoor nudist clubs exist as well and that creates an ersatz sense of authenticity. And higher heating bills. That still doesn't mean the religions are wrong as such. The question might be, how do you win converts to such a culture or religion, easy as that sounds? But clothes were invented for reasons practical as well as many others. Makes you wonder how Og's great great gandkid figured out wearing the skin of cattle kept warmth in ways no fire could? There is a logic behind nudity, however. There is a logic behind most things humans do, anyway.
