In "The Way to Eden", when Chekov takes Irina out of Sickbay and down the corridor to talk about what a dirty hippie she's become, people are looking at them and Pavel gets annoyed and takes her into an empty room for some privacy.

The last guy to look at them was a redshirt, who was totally checking out Pavel. He didn't even notice there was a girl there!

It can be seen at about the 14:00 minute mark here.

That should settle the debate about the first gay Star Trek character.

It sure doesn't look that way to me. It may be a depth-of-field/perspective trick on the eye, but he really does seem to be giving Chekov a look up and down -- mostly down.
