Dr. Carol Marcus

Kamdan

Commander
Red Shirt
Any speculation on what kind of a role she will play in the film? Since she was a molecular biologist, it will be interesting to see how that fits into the plot, as she's apparently on the Enterprise. Seems like the whole romance angle between her and Kirk will be reminiscent of Dr. Helen Noel. Interesting to note that, since Janet Wallace was originally going to be the Carol Marcus role in the original script for Star Trek II. I'm not sure if they want her to play the Marla McGivers role and have her be a traitor. Your thoughts?

According to what we know so far from the cast interviews
she is a scientist and a weapons expert. Her expertise plays a key role in resolving the crisis started by John Harrison. Also, there isn't any real romance but there is some flirting between her and Kirk

But there is
flirting between Kirk and everybody. How personal is it I wonder..

Kirk just loves attention.

I always thought Carol was (in the prime timeline) the lab technician whom Gary Mitchell fixed up with Kirk...
That lab tech could be any of several blondes with a science background that Kirk knew.

But given that Kirk "nearly married" the one Gary Mitchell hooked him up with and that he and Carol had a son together, it stands to reason that Carol is the one they were talking about.

And that's the story I stubbornly stick to and refuse to be convinced otherwise about.

Isn't the tech in the background of that img the person said to be JH of the prime timeline?
No, not the same guy. Compare unknown actor's red-overalls crewman from "Corbomite" to Ron Veto's Harrison (or possibly Thule) in same episode.

(Captures from here)

Ah, yes. They're close but different. Thanks.

Other than having understanding of and probably the means to neutralize or diminish JH's weapons capability's, she may distract Kirk causing him to make a fatal error where-after he forever swears off women.

Misdirection. She's really Dehner. We know from the hair.

That wouldn't be misdirection, that would be flat out lying, which isn't really Bad Robot's style. Silly half-truths, vague implications of what might be, or won't not be. Sometimes they might deny something which actually turns out to be true (like the ending of Lost). And fuck knows they're not to be trusted if they say they'll have a script done by the end of the month. But when they actually do reveal a fact, it is fact, and therefore if they say Alice Eve is playing Carol Marcus, then Alice Eve is playing Carol Marcus. End of discussion.

After all that Delta Vega shit, it wouldn't surprise me if they suddenly say "She's not THAT Carol Marcus, wink wink".

Early drafts of TWOK used Janice Wallace in the Marcus role.

The only "shit" was fanboys going apeshit over the namedrop.

Why would Alice Eve agree to the gratuitous lingerie scene if she wants to be taken seriously as a Starfleet Scientist?
